Ok, now that I got a straight answer regarding
EV of MCR vs MER.
How about a simple answer why, I would want to play that strategy.
The point of my alternate strategies is not to convince people that they
should abandon their current strategy.
If you want to pay the least average amount for each royal, the MCR
strategy does a better job than any other strategy, for that specific
goal. If that isn't something you care about, then you probably
shouldn't use MCR.
If you want the best chance of having your bankroll survive until you
hit a royal, then Best_Shot(royal) is the appropriate strategy.
The point is to use the right tool for the job. Max-ER is only good at
one thing -- giving back the most dollars per hand played. If that is
your objective, then you should use Max-ER strategy.
Now maybe you can bring in your ROR and etc. I do have some concept
of those, even though I am not comfortable doing the math. So keep
it a the public school level.
For favorable games, the min-risk strategy gives the player the absolute
best chance of playing indefinitely without ever going broke. I'm sure
a lot of players would like to maximize ER and also minimize ROR at the
same time, but these two goals are mathematically incompatible.
If you want the best chance of having your bankroll survive until you
hit a royal, then Best_Shot(royal) is the appropriate strategy.
And so on. The concept of "best way to play" is not an absolute thing
for which there is one and only one answer. The best way to play depends
on your objective. The analogy to driving a car to minimize travel time,
or minimize distance covered, or get the most miles per gallon for the
fewest dollars consumed per mile (accounting for cost of gas, oil, tires,
insurance, etc.) all lead to different "driving strategies".
