Why A Buffet No- No?

Howdy

I decided to take some pizza home after eating at a casino buffet this
afternoon. As I neared the exit I was stopped and told I could not leave with
food. I said why? It's not like a full course meal. She said because I could get
sick. I thought this was a BS answer which made no sense to me. Does anyone
know the harm in taking a piece of pizza or a small desert for that matter?

The representative should not have said it was because you could get sick.
She should have said, "because it's against their policy."

Buffet food is like bargain hamburger or government cheese. You have
to keep it over/under, something like over 180oF or under 50oF,
otherwise all that nasty stuff in there starts multiplying and will
make you sick, big time. Watch or read "Fast Food Nation" if you want
to know all about that extra ingredient. It ain't Soylent Green, more
like Soylent Brown. Thank you Charlton Heston. Then there's that nasty
five second rule, if an order drops on the ground, it's ok as long as
it gets picked up before five seconds elapse. Now, would you like
special sauce on your order?

The bacterial argument is a smokescreen, albeit a valid one---the
casino doesn't want you getting sick from that food you took home,
without refrigeration, and ate a few hours later, and then suing them
or making a complaint. But the "you can't take it with you" policy
predates bacterial awareness.

The real reason is that they figure that you will eat x amount of
food, but no more than all you can stuff down--allowing you to fill up
your purse with muffins, or whatever, skews that calculation and adds
to the cost of the buffet. You can bet that if they didn't have and
enforce such a policy, some people would show up wearing backpacks.

All buffets have a common rule - no doggy bags of any kind whatsoever! The reason is simple economics, if allowed skeves from all over would go there once a week, and pack 6 days worth of food in the doggy parcel ( lol ).
The answer about getting you sick is true, but an equally good chance of getting food poisoning at the original time of consumption still exists. If you have never gotten sick from a buffet, you haven't eaten many buffets.
Anybody remember the buffet at the Sante Fe Station ? Pure dog vomit...yuk....

On a visit to the MGM Grand Buffet we sat at one of the tables for two about five tables to the left after reaching the front of the line for seating.

I happened to look up and see the familiar "bubble" camera you normally only see in gaming areas.

Yes, they do see that prime rib snack you slipped into your pocket.

But that's not the only reason for surveillance.

The manager told me of so many bogus lawsuits from claims of customers slipping and falling and that the videos being recorded are there for protection - of the casino, of course.
