Which Would You Choose.

I often see the statement that you should always play 5 coins in
order to be eligible for the royal bonus.
  What if there were two choices on $.25 machines. You can play a
6/5 JoB game and the bet for the royal bonus is $1.25. The other
choice is to play an multiple play machine that pay 8/6 for a 5 hand
version. You can play 5 hands for the same $1.25 bet at the better
pay schedule, but no royal bonus.
   I know for many the choice would be neither. However, in Arizona
the 6/5 JoB is the norm for most $.25 machines. The multiple hand
machines might offer 7/5 on 3 hand machines or 8/5 on 5 hands
machines at the $.50 level. Which is the better choice if one if
normally confined to these casinos. Assume the amount of play is 4
hours or less on any given day and with limited bankroll/risk. In
fact, what should be the expected bankroll for about 4 hours play on
the two machines mentioned? Thanks for any help and insight.

-- If you were "forced" to play one of these dogs, you would be
better off playing the 8/6 at one coin as you'd lose at a slower
rate and have more opportunities to make small hits/refunds. Just my
opinion, of course, though I've read that if you play less than full-
pay vp, you should play as slowly and with the least coin-in as
possible.

Why not travel to Laughlin by car or bus if you can't get to
LV/Reno? You would surely get a beter gamble.

     That is a logical question (Laughlin & Vegas) and answer (coin
in). Laughlin and Vegas are desires, but we are talking hours
instead of minutes of driving - not counting overnight time and
expense. Short of hitting a royal or straight flush, maybe those
expenses make up for a lot of "coin in" locally. I can afford more
than $1.25 a bet but I am still learning and getting expereince and
those reason alone are reasons to limit the bet size. I was
wondering which was the best choice of "the dogs". I know they are
bad and it really bothers me that they take advantage of players.

     Wouldn't the local casinos make a lot of money even with fair
pay schedules? Often, I tease my wife (really a beginner). She will
play one $.05 line on a 6/5 JoB 10 play machine at a time. Sometimes
she like to get "really wild" and play 2 lines ($.10). From what I
have learned here, I guess that "smooths her volatility"! Every time
she gets a Full House I can help but tease her that it should have
been $.40 instead of a $.25 profit. I am amazed how much these
"dogs" are played - even if slightly better machines are right across
the aisle! Thanks to you (and others) for taking the time to respond
to my question.

The payback on a 6/5 machine 94.99% with a variance of 19.04 .
The payback on an 8/6 machine with short coin is 97.22% with a variance of ONLY 4.76 .

The choice looks easy.
