Which marketing "free room" offers are really for FREE rooms????

From: "aclinml" <aclinml@yahoo.com>

Took my first trip to Reno and stayed 3 nights at the Peppermill. A
host gave me a casino rate ($39) for the Montego Bay rooms.

What are the Montego Bay rooms? We've stayed and played at the Pmill for years and have never heard of any rooms called this.

went
with another couple making their second trip. They reserved their room
using a "free" room offer they received from direct marketing. Their
coupon did say "rooms would be charged to your comp balance". And sure
enough, their comp balance dropped by $40 a day to cover their room.

I know some people have said this is always the case, and others have
said this shouldn't, or probably wouldn't happen. But I will assume
that if the coupon says it will be charged, then it will.

My question should be pretty simple.

Are their marketing offers from any of the other major Reno (and
Sparks) casino hotels that are for FREE rooms NOT charged to your comp
account?

Most (but not all) free room offers from most of the Reno casinos are not charged to your comp account. Upgrades may be charged to your comp account. Read the fine print on the offer, and if you aren't sure, ask your host and/or the reservations person when you are booking the room.

In fact the Peppermill is the only place we know for sure that the room has been charged to our comp account (when the offer stated the room would be free), but it's still one of the places we stay the most. The fine print in the Peppermill offers does state that complimentary charges apply, and the free room is usually called out with an asterisk.

Show offers at some casinos are charged to the comp account (El Dorado, for instance).

While people can relate their personal experiences (or at least their recollections of what might have happened), you are best off asking in any particular case where it's not been made clear.

You have to make the decision on balance what's important to you and where you get the most value for your play.

You can access some of them by going over the crosswalk on the third
floor. However, after we looked all over, we still couldn't locate
our room! So, I picked up a house phone and talked to the front
desk, and they informed us our room was in a new, stand alone
building, right behind the huge hole where they are starting the new
tower. So, basically we had to go to the bottom of the attached
Montego Bay wing, exit the building, and walk around the
construction zone to a seperate, stand alone Montego Bay building
(about a 50 yard walk outside).

It was a nice, rather smallish room and did indeed have about a 36"
or 42" plasma TV (although these was no HD programming available
that the TV could benefit from). We let a host know at checkout that
we weren't happy with the fact of having to go back outside to get
to our room. He appoligized, but still only comped one of the three
nights we stayed there.

I only hope after they get the new tower completed, they create a
skywalk to connect the new Montego Bay wing to it. For a resort
destination, it seems pretty classless to force some guests to walk
outside around a construction area to get to their room.(Thank
goodness we didn't have any bad weather). It will obviously be an
unpleasn't walk in Jan and Feb.
