which is the correct hand in jacks or better 9/6 video poker

Hi All,
I am still a novice and learning to play video poker , Jacks or
Better 9/6. I have read two versions of holding the 10 with a face
card. One says to only hold with Jacks or Queens when you only have
one face card and a 10, the other says to hold a 10 with all face
cards, If you only have a face card and a 10. Can anyone advice me as
to how you hold 10/s with face cards, and why you do it? To me it
would make more since to hold a 10 with all the face cards.
Thanks,
Pat

Pat, in learning the game you should be availing yourself of a basic
strategy card. There are several good sources from which you can
purchase one for individual games. There is also a program called VP
Strategy Master (VPSM) which will allow you to prepare cards for
multiple games.

The precedence of holds for the cards you note is as follows
(excerpted from a strategy prepared with VPSM):

KQJ
QJ
JTs
KQ, KJ
QTs
AK, AQ, AJ
KTs

(note that XTs = holding a face card and a same suited Ten).

This strategy varies somewhat from the two rule-of-thumbs you
describe. The sequence of these holds is driven by the opportunity of
forming a high pair on the draw and the liklihood of completing a
straight or flush.
