Where to go....?? Suggestions appreciated

Hi all,

I was hoping to gather some opinions / information from the collective wisdom of the VP experts on the forum.

My husband and I usually make one to two trips a year to Las Vegas and have always stayed at Harrah's/Caesars properties. We used to go more frequently and have (so far) always enjoyed full room, food and beverage comps. We play $1 single handed, 50cent triple handed and 25cent Spin Poker. My dilemma today is that, as you are all aware, there is often "Nothing good" to play in terms of payback on the VP and frankly, I'm a little bored having stayed at these same properties time and time again.

So, I was investigating the VPFree site and was considering staying at the Palms or Green Valley Ranch for our upcoming trip. Both properties seem to have a selection of higher payback VP and we have some business in Las Vegas, so these two properties were also appealing as they're not too far from our conference. We are 48 and 57 and don't mind a higher energy casino but REQUIRE a (nice) quiet room. We also love good dining options. We're not swimming pool or spa people and would not select a property based on it's entertainment but do prefer an older crowd.

What I was wondering was what I might expect in terms of comps if I venture to these properties instead of my good old standbys. One loss I'll suffer is a $350 free play credit if I don't book at Harrah's/Caesars. I'm also concerned that there would be no comps at all based on some of the reading I've done. We typically play 5 hours daily and are there for 4 days and play on the same card (so 10 hours * 4). Obviously, nobody can give me an exact scenario, but any comments or tips would be appreciated. Part of me wants to gamble and try something new but the other part of me wonders if reliable fun and good food might be my best bet.

Thanks very much!

Well you have the right idea of moving off of the strip to where you will get better games to play. As far as comps go the Palms doesn't have a great reputation for generosity, station's have a little better reputation, but not too consistent. South Point only comps losers. For that general area of town I think you might want to consider the M, their games aren't as good as the others but way better that where you have been staying, they have good rooms, some good eating options and a reasonable comp policy. If you are willing to do more travelling you might want to also consider the Rampart in Summerlin. Many of the Downtown casinos are very good but the rooms aren't as nice as what you are used to. Lots of luck in your decision.

I heartily second A.P.'s comments.
I've been a low level Diamond at Caesar's Entertainment for over 10 years and this will be my last year as a Diamond. When 9/6 JOB went away, I began staying at other properties.
In Las Vegas my 3 favorites are Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock, and The "M".
GVR and Red Rock have the best payback machines by a large margin, but if you play the optimum play (100% payback +) machines, your comp points payback will basically disappear. If you're comfortable with the games on their 99.8 max payback machines, you'll have a fighting chance and still get the 3 points per dollar in comp buildup.
We also stay at the "M" because we love the place. The price we pay is that 9/6 DDB is the best game we've found of the games that we're comfortable with.On the plus side, the "M" has a great buffet that includes beer and wine ( the buffet is free after a modest amount of play on the same day without using any comp points), always smells clean and fresh on the casino floor, and has beautiful rooms. Actually the whole property is attractive and their coffee and pastry shop called Babycakes is open 24/7.It's location is WAY South on Las Vegas Blvd. but they now have a shuttle to the Tropicana, (which their parent company recently bought).
We typically spend 3 nights at Red Rock, two nights at The "M", and then 3 nights at GVR. Although GVR and RR are both Station's properties, you can stay at both using free room offers as long as you have a 48 hour break between stays.
We'll be going out on August 9th for 8 nights and if anything has changed since last time we were last there, I'll post the info.
Jim

You could double book - even if you don't stay at CZR, still redeem the free play. Seems worth one trip there even if you just get the room key and never go to it. I do this regularly.

Another option would be to stay at Caesar's, use the free play, but don't play there.Use the time to establish yourself at other properties and see what offers come for the future.

I'm leaving Saturday for a week in Las Vegas. I'm a low level Diamond player and got 4 free nights at the Rio, then 1 free night at Harrah's with the last 2 nights costing around $90 (but actual cost slightly over $50 paying with comps worth 4/7). I have no free play there, and either way wouldn't give them a penny of my play, other than taking advantage of their coupon books if they still have them. Last time I asked for more and they had no problem giving them to me. Probably made over $100 off of the free play.

You should definitely stay at a Caesars property and collect your free play, and also ask for extra coupon books, but I see no reason to play there. You obviously did something to earn that free play, so why lose it?

I would suggest the Palms, which is a short walk from the Rio if you don't have a car. I play 9/6 JOB, and they have 0.25% back in free play. They seem to have a lot of promotions, but you have to make sure you play at a machine that qualifies. Some of the 9/6 JOB machines say that they don't qualify, the others do. I once got a $200 gift card that amounted to another 0.25%. If you have to get a bulky gift that you don't want to take on the plane, you can probably get a gift card instead, but for a lesser cash back return. I think once I also earned a wine glass, but I said that I didn't want to take it on the plane and they gave me a $10 gift card instead.

They seem to be pretty nice about things. I went online and completed a survey, and I got 5000 points ($12.50 in play at 400 points/$1) that expired on July 30. I called and asked what time they expire, explaining that my flight is coming in late and I might not get there until 1 or 2 AM. They said that the offer was good until midnight, but they told me they were just going to add the points to my card and I would have them available whenever I showed up. I don't think most casinos would do that, and definitely not where I normally play in Atlantic City.

The Palms has very good buffet deals, especially on certain days of the week, and it is cheaper if you pay with comps instead of redeeming them for free play.

I'm not suggesting that this is the best place, and I'm no expert and only go once every year or two. But I happen to like it there and think I'm getting a good return on my play if not necessarily at 100%.
