When to change machines?

Hi,
I'm Bruce a newbie. Just got back from LV and while out there I got to
thinking about when/if to change machine when they cool off. Use to
play live Black Jack and I believe in changing dealers when they get
hot. Asked around out there and the consciences is it makes no
difference. Any thoughts/statistics on this? Sorry if this has been
discussed I didn't find it in looking back.

From the FAQ: vpFREE Dogma - Switching Machines

"Players can switch machines for many reasons, but all
other things being equal, changing machines doesn't
change future expectations in any predictable manner."

I'm one of the more "dogmatic" players who doesn't shift machines for
sour luck so long as I have no other complaint with the machine. (I
imagine one motivation for that perseverance is that were I to change
machines and immediately hit a lucky streak, this conviction, along
with all others about machine randomness and fairness, might tumble
like a house of cards

This was put to the test this last week when a 4-of-a-kind failed to
show until about my 1900th hand at a machine. While hardly a record
setting run, it set me into a grudge fest with the machine, determined
it wouldn't get the best of me. 1400 hands later I bailed on the
session (and trip); no further quads surfaced.

This set me to wondering whether I had ever suffered a run of 4000+
hands without a quad. With moderately active play these last 9 years,
I figure on ~2 mil hands of likely play, odds are better for than
against (exact odds are surprisingly complex to figure). However, I
don't recall having suffered this.

1400 hands into a new drought, you can look for me to watch to see how
the next 2600 play out. (I'll take pains to return to the same
machine, of course

Don't forget your socks! While playing at the same machine, make sure
to be wearing the same pair of socks, to control for their effect on
quad frequency.

(As previously reported, a curious quirk of human nature causes us to
to try to change our luck by switching from one 9/6 Jacks machine to
another... while neglecting to change our socks. Switching socks
influences VP results every bit as much as switching machines.)
