When do machines Auto-hold - before & after draw?

Just curiosity from a newbie VP player.

I've had two royals so far, and neither one did anything unusual.

Both draws (AQ10 diamonds, AJ spades).
Both multi-line machines (100-play & 5-play). - probably why nothing happened.
Also, neither was over $1,250.

I've seen a bank of 25c DDB progressives at Mandalay Bay that hand-pay on $100 4-of-a-kinds. Because of the progressive was the explanation of one of the slot people who came to do the hand-pays.

Some have said that if the largest bonus (royal flush) hits on some machines, it's a hand-pay even if the amount is < $1,200.

Thanks.
Mitchell

Casino's can set the "hand pay" amount ( as long as its under $1200 ) to anything they want regardless of progressive status. There is a 5C machine at Atlantis that requires a hand pay for anything over 400 coins ( $20 ). I put a $30 ticket in this machine, lost $5 , and cashed out. Bells and whistles went off - Call attendant flashed on my screen. Twenty minutes later ( it was a busy Saturday night ) The attendant comes over with the obligatory "Nice Hit sir, Congratulations". Well , I felt sorry for him, so I game up a $1 tip for the $25 hand pay.
