When Did VP Machines 1st Hit LV?

I started playing video poker in the early 80's at the Sands ( I loved the
place). They had 10's or better machines near the lounge area. I could play one
quarter at a time and listen to some great music. I know now the pay tables
were bad, but the entertainment more than made up for the small losses.

Ahh ... the Sands. Real old fashioned Vegas. Used to travel, by foot,
from Stardust thru Frontier. Then walk past mall thru parking lot that
is now TI and Mirage. On across to Holiday Inn, Sands, Caesars and IP.
Ip was a motel and Frontier had a place next to it called Silver
Slipper. As far as I'm concerned; that's when Vegas was most fun. Late
70s and early 80s. VP came in about same time as Pong and Space
Invaders. There was a time when I played Space Invaders with the same
vigor that I now play JOB.

When the first electronic slots came out my wife hit a $10,000 jackpot
at Stardust. Management was all around checking out machine. Slot
attendants were saying, "Don't touch machine etc." The bosses took my
wife and I into back room to make the payout. We were staying at
Frontier but we had a rental car there. The 10G was the first large
payout on the new slots. Security asked us to put $$$ in safe deposit
box at hotel and escorted us to our car for safety. They asked us to
please leaveproperty and not come back till daytime tomorrow. Boy have
times changed!

I liked those 10s or better but I played mostly JOB.
