What's Your Fluke?

I was wondering about some of the flukes other vpFREE members have experienced. By fluke I mean an unexpected result. And it startled you so much you still remember it.

For Example: At Super Aces 10 play recently I was dealt three aces on the bottom line 3 times in less than 15 minutes. In Super Aces even a pair of aces rivets your attention. But a dealt 3 aces on a 10 play? I had to pause awhile before hitting "DRAW".

The result? In each of those 3 times (10 hands x 3 times=30 chances total), I never drew the fourth ace. Though only "slightly" unlucky (odds-wise) I figured it just wasn't my day.

That would end my story, except later I was dealt not three aces, not a pair, but one lonely ace (which is the only card I held of the five). No pause this time (not my day, right?) but, sure enough, up pop the other three aces in one of the hands.

My fluke.

Mikeymic: Some stories to share about "flukes".

I have had my share of "flukes". One?"fluke" occurred at Foxwoods about 15 years ago. I was playing JOB (not sure what the pay schedule was but sure it was not 9/6).?I got 4 Kings on a hand. Not a fluke at all, But, next hand, I got 4 kings again and suddenly there were lots of people standing behind my machine. The next hand I was dealt 3 Kings, but did not draw the fourth king. Then, on the next hand, I was dealt two kings and got one more on the draw for 14 kings in four consecutive hands.

One time at Rio when they had 8/5 BP in the mid 90s I got back to back four aces in consecutive hands.

The biggest fluke was when I first played video poker. I had just been told I was "too good" in blackjack at what was then called Barbary Coast. So, I moved over to the video poker machines in the same casino while waiting for my wife to return from shopping. I did not know any video poker strategy at the time. A few minutes into my play, I was dealt a hand?which included two small clubs (5C and 2C). I held those two cards since they were the only cards that seemed to be connected and there were no face cards in the hand. I drew the 3C, 4C, and 6C for a straight flush!

Perhaps the strangest "fluke" I have ever seen was at an Indian casino in Louisiana. I was playing triple play 8/5 BP and a young lady sat down next to me and said "Today is my 21st birthday. How do you play these machines?" She put in a $20 bill and was dealt a royal flush in diamonds on the very first hand she ever played. She then asked me: "What do I do now?". I told her someone will come by in a minute or so to start the payment of $3,000 to you. She got on her cell phone and called her parents who were in the casino and then called lots of friends.

Once at Four Queens I was playing the 10/7 DB Progressive when a couple brought their mother to play these machines. The lady was a very nice senior citizen, who told me this was the first time she had ever played one of these poker machines. Several hands into her play she was dealt a RAZGU--a nine high hand that should be thrown away. She agonized for awhile and then decided to keep the lone nine since it was the highest card in the hand. She drew the other three nines!

Another "fluke" I witnessed was at Harrahs New Orleans when I was playing the only $.25 9/6 triple play machine in the casino, a machine?which?many members on this board knew quite well. The machine?is now gone to video poker heaven. The row of machines was next to the rail of the poker room. A guy who needed a smoking break from his poker room play put a $100 bill in the 10 play $1 machine next to my machine. The pay table for his play was 9/5 JOB. On the first hand, he was dealt a royal flush in clubs for $40,000. I just kept on playing while the hand slapping and gawking went on for quite some time. The mechanic came to check out the machine. Then, he was given a hand written check for $40,000. Pretty amazing.

If you play long enough you will see and get some truly amazing?hands.

My favorite story about good fortune happened at the California in downtown Vegas a couple of years ago. I was there with five work buddies, a once=a-year trip we make.

We were all playing on one blackjack table together and having a pretty good time. I played maybe a half hour at first base, maybe winning 50 bucks, before telling the guys I had to go play VP because that was my thing.

I went over to the slant tops next to craps pit. There's one particular machine on the left side of the bank as you sit facing the north (facing away from snack bar) that has this incredibly chilly blast of air conditioning that's aimed at your ankles! I was a trooper though and played through it, at the 50-cent level, 9-6 DDB.

Well I got 4 Aces and then dueces with a kicker in like 20 minutes so that 100 I put in the machine was now $750. I walked back to the BJ table and showed them the ticket and said "This is why I play VP." Their jaws all dropped and the dealer said: "Come back when you've got that to a thousand."

So I went back to the same machine and proceeded to get even more quads. Twenty minutes had passed and I went back to the BJ table and showed them the ticket for $1,400. Much hilarity. Then the dealer says: "Come back when it's over 2 grand."

So off I go again. Same machine. And 30 minutes later I hit aces with the kicker for $1,000. I swear I'm not making this up.

I walk back to the table and show them the ticket: $2,200. This time the dealer's jaw dropped. He says he's done that "come back with more" routine several times but that that was the first time anybody's ever made it work like that!

They were ready to leave so that was the end of the run. But that sure was a fun night!

While playing at Mohegan Sun about 9 years ago, I was playing $1 DB 9/6/5 (yeah, I know, I know). I was dealt a royal! I waited to be paid and moved over to the next machine and once I get paid off, I get another dealt royal on this one too! Talk about a lightning strike. This happened in less than 10 minutes time.

====================================================
Several years ago, at the El Cortez, after having a dreadful
losing day and evening, I decided to play one final Bennie in
a .25c FPKBJW machine, which at that time was located in the
alcove across from Roberta's.

With little optimism, I sat down at an end machine, and drew
my first hand. I was astonished to see a dealt 4OAK. Drawing
again, I almost fell off the stool when I saw a dealt SF! The
third draw produced a dealt 5OAK! In my glee and excitement,
I ruminated on the possibilty of a broken machine. {{O:

Now I was expecting a royal on the next draw. What a
disappointment when I drew a dog. I spent $100 of my winnings
chasing the royal, but it never appeared. After the first
three hands, I didn't see another another decent paying hand
during the remainder of the session.

About 15 years ago, again at the El Cortez, I was playing .25c
10/7DB. I sat down at an end machine on a bank, and soon popped
4 aces. I attempted to cash out 800 quarters, and the machine
ran out of coins. As I waited for a hopper fill, I moved over
to the next machine in the row. The first hand resulted in dealt
4 aces. After playing 10 more hands without a payoff, I once
again attempted to cash out and again needed a hopper fill. Now
sitting at the third machine in the row, the first hand dealt
contained the ace of diamonds and nothing else to save. I drew
four cards to the held ace, and wound up with a diamond royal!

When the slot people finally showed up with bags of quarters for
the hopper fills, they called for a slot supervisor and a camera. He took my picture in front of the three machines. They later
mailed me a copy of the picture, together with lots of free room
and meal coupons.

My fluke.

Any stories you want to share?

I have two stories to share, both happening this past April on a trip to Vegas.

The 1st was at the Hard Rock, I had 15 mins to kill before a poker tourney, so I sat down to play $1 3 Play DDB at a bank of machines just outside the sports book. After 3-4 hands I was dealt a full house, the very next hand I was dealt a 4OAK, 10s I think...very cool, a few more hands and nothing more - oh well I had my poker buy in more than paid for. After getting knocked out of the tourney, I went back to the same machine; 1st hand, dealt full house; next hand, you guessed it, dealt 4OAK, this time Kings.... A few more hands of nothing so off I went cashing out for the two "sessions" up around $1500.
I returned the next day to play in another tourney, tried the same machine before & after the tourney with zero luck & $300 down the drain.

The 2nd was at MSS, playing 5 play .25 DDB & DB, switching back and forth between the games...The night before, I played this machine for hrs and pretty much broke even. I had an hr to kill before dinner reservations and the wife was playing VP at the Boars Head bar. Within the hr I had accumulated 14 of the 4OAK scratch cards that they hand out when a 4OAK or better hits. Not a single 4OAK was dealt to me and I never had a payout higher than 250 credits on any of the ones I hit. I am sure that the slot techs were getting tired of coming to my machine every few mins to hand me a scratch off card.
I cashed out up $700+.
After dinner, I returned to the same machine to play the same games; no one had played on it since the amt that I was paid was still showing at the bottom of the screen...could lightning strike 2X?? Not really. I played this machine for about 3 hrs, hit about 5-6 4OAKs and was down about $600. I was about to pack it in for the night, but decided to switch to 3 Play Bonus Deluxe with the last $100 that I was willing to donate for the night. On the very 1st hand I was dealt 3 to a Royal, the redraw gave me 1 Royal, 1 straight flush and one flush. I immediately cashed out and called it a night.
