What's up with those 50-Play/100-Play Multidenom machines lately?

I've been noticing more and more lately that those Multidenomination 50-
Play/100-Play vp machines are being played by people with the intent of
just playing a single line (a total of 5 cents for 1-cent denom). And
they get to stay on those machines for very llllooooonnnnggggg time. So
if you happen to be in the mode of playing one of these machines,
you'll have to wait a long time. :<

Why won't the casinos have a few 1-Play 1c or 2c machines for these
type of players? I remember seeing a couple of these machines at Gold
Coast so they are available!?

I have a simular problem - the people who play the Keno games on the VP machines. They too get on it and stay forever -
and I have found few casinos who have the machines with just Keno on them. Frustrating to say the least.

I found the problem that you mention while I was in Las Vegas last week quite often. I finally went up and asked one of
the people who was playing a 100 play VP machine why they were playing only 1 line and their answer "These games are
luckier because it can play all those hands". Then I proceed to watch them get dealt a Royal Flush - I said "see, if
you were playing all the hands, you would have just won big". His comment was "I don't care, I am just playing for fun
- I don't care about the money on penny machines. I usually play $5 video poker." then proceeded to show me his
player's card which was the highest level you can get at that casino.

I just walked away shaking my head. What else could I do at that point?

Hi Gilbert,

Most casinos do have some variation of 1 & 2 cent vp, besides the 50
& 100 play. For whatever reason, very low-rollers seem to prefer to
occupy the 50/100 play machines. Perhaps it makes them feel like
higher-rollers than they actually are. Perhaps they want to have
the opportuntity to bet more credits if they're doing well. I have
noticed this in every casino in which I've played, so it is quite a
common occurance.

It can be maddening, but, unfortunately, short of posting
restrictions that the 50/100 can only be played full-coin (which
would be difficult to enforce, unless ONLY full coin would activate
the deal) there is no solution to this aggravating dilemma.

I do understand your frustration. Last week, at the GN, I tried for
hours to play the ONLY vp machine in the casino that is a 10
play .05 and has 10/7DB. IMO, it is the best play at the GN. Every
time I looked, I saw a gentleman (assisted by his wife sitting next
to him at a SINGLE LINE .05 machine with 10/7DB) playing ONE NICKLE
AT A TIME!!

Of course I was sorely tempted to ask him (politely, of course) to
play one of the MANY single-line machines, in the same bank, that
had the same game. But, instinctively, I knew that it would be
useless, and could possibly lead to some nasty exchange. So, my
solution was to keep going back to the 10 play machine, over and
over again, to see if he was finished with it. He finally lost his
$5.00, and I slid onto the seat while it was still warm.
Unfortuntely, ONLY the seat was warm, and I soon parted with 2
Benjies.... hmmmmm.......who was the "smart" one here.

Cheers,

Babe

I think you answered your own question: Because the casinos don't
offer small denom single-line machines. Here in KC, people also tie up
the 50- and 100- line .01/.02/.05 machines while playing only one (or
maybe a few) lines. But they do so while complaining about it.

I doubt the situation will change any time soon. How much revenue can
the casino get from a nickel (or penny) single-line machine? Why take
up floor space with that? They know the people who play one line on a
multi-line machine will eventually try more lines.

I have been asking that for quite a while. I understand that the
3/5/10/50/100 play machines have a royalty/surcharge/kickback
percentage as part of the licensing with IGT and that is why they
usually have poorer paytables, I dont know why the casinos dont block
the 1 penny 1 hand players, that cant even pay the electric to run the
darn thing. I like to play the 50 and 100 plays when I can find a
decent game, but they are usually tied up by the one coin one hand people.

If it's the same machine that I refer to being in Row 2, I know that
machine well. And I have seen the exact same thing you mentioned. I
was at the GN late last Thursday night and the entire row of nickel
Game Kings was empty except that one machine. I started on the far
left end of single line machines and worked my way down the entire
row, putting quads on five machines. Finally got to the last machine
before the Ten Play and noticed the woman had something like $1.25 in
credits on the machine. So I covertly watched and saw her alternate
between playing 5 cents or 10 cents per round. I ended up not getting
to play that machine.

Excellent comment. Any details on that royalty? My guess is that it
goes to Action Gaming for their multi-hand patent.

Hi Charles,

It's the same machine. 2nd row back from the buffet (as you're
facing the vip line).

That machine, which became my nemisis, will be forever remembered as
my nightmare play at the Tarnished Nugget. Not only did it cost me
100's of $$$$, but I was accosted, while sitting there, by a crazy
drunk, who tripped over my foot (which was under the stool I was
sitting on) hit his leg on the edge of the machine, and started
cursing me very loudly for tripping him. I was on the verge of
calling security when he slunk away.

The only time that machine seemed to be free was early in the am.
Since I am a very early riser, and am usually in the casino by
6:00am, I decided to make this my first play, each morning, to avoid
the hassle of waiting for it. The first morning that I played it, it
behaved quite nicely, giving me several quads in addition to quad
2's, 3's & 4's. Despite not getting the Aces or anything on the
bottom line, I still managed to win $80.00+. Every other of the
next 4 mornings that I pounded away on that machine, it cleaned my
clock. I considered myself lucky to start the day "only" minus
$200.00.

I guess I should be grateful to the "one nickle at time" players who
were occupying the machine most of the time. Had it been available
more often, I could have lost a lot more. BTW, I never saw any
players, otber than me, playing the 10 play at full coin-in. The
highest nickle roller that I noticed was playing 10 coins at a time.

The machine was still fun to play, despite my losses. I find it
very exhilarating watching 10 hands come up on the screen. In fact,
it rather spoils me for single-line play, until I get back in that
mode again.

I hope one our members hits that machine for a royal, on the bottom
line, before it goes MIA.

I've noticed this strange behavior ever since the 50 and 100 play
machines first appeared. I can't explain it. And just recently I was
sitting next to a man who was playing a 100 line nickle machine when he
started to get all excited because he hit a Royal. I looked at his
machine, and sure enough, he had hit a Royal on one spot worth 250
coins?!?!?! He was playing 5 lines, one coin per line, for a quarter
per spin. Why he wasn't at least playing one line at 5 coins for the
same price (to get the full value for the Royal) is beyond me.

The other strange behavior I have noticed is that when someone DOES
play these machines at full coin, it tends to draw unwanted
spectators. These spectators include both other players and casino
workers. The only explanation I can come up with is that so many
people play these things one or two lines at a time, that it is somehow
an unusual and fascinating sight for people to see all 50 (or 100)
lines lit up. I have literally had people continuously stare at me
playing one of these machines for an hour or longer. To be honest, it
sort of gives me the creeps. Sometimes they will make annoying
comments, like "Oh great, you hit a full house" as you get another 160
coin return for the 250 coin bet. Or they'll say "You must be doing
great...you have $300 in credits", when you have already fed the
machine $1800 for the day. I don't need a cheering section, and when
I'm losing heavily, I REALLY don't need a cheering section.

a given, that had you tried to point out the errors of his way, he

I've truly given up trying to help other players, and even if asked,
rarely offer correct playing strategy.

I agree. I would think that the casinos could

devise a method whereby 50/100 vp machines could be only be
activated by playing at least 50 or 100 coins per draw. This would
eliminate, or at least alleviate, the problem of playing these
machines one or two coins at a time. What possible "thrill" can
someone derive from a $2.50 royal? Personally, it would make me
want to cry!

I don't ever play 50/100 line machines, because quarters are the
minimum denom. that I'm interested in playing. I also refuse to play
less than full-coin. But you brave souls who do play this expensive
game have my sympathy for having to put up with this unnecessary

That's funny. Reminds me of a recent visit to GN; I think it was two
weeks ago; around 12:30 at night. I sat down at the Ten Play and was
immediately aggravated by some obnoxious people playing the last three
Game Kings toward that small cashier counter. Literally every other
word was a curse word; from both the guys and the girls; all in their
20's. I thought I was in the middle of a Jerry Springer infomercial. A
woman sat down at the Game King on my left, but even with her as a
buffer, the noise just continued. I cashed out after maybe 20 rounds,
and went over to the Double Royal Mania's to enjoy my Long Island Ice
Tea, but even with a whole row of machines as a barrier, the group of
idiots were drowning out any sounds from the machines; or the overhead
music. I actually couldn't take it; I ended up leaving after playing 2
machines and driving to the Rampart.

Hi Charles,

I'm sorry that you not only got chased off your machine, but right
out of the casino. I think that I probably would have called
someone to intervene before deciding to leave the casino. Even at
the risk of being subjected to rude conversation, from the
perpertraters, I would have tried to get those unruly individuals
silenced.

I do hope that something besides the "F" word is being taught in
high schools & universities these days. Sometimes it seems
otherwise.

My husband & I are frequently sujected to a barrage of blue
vocabulary, while enjoying a baseball game. Usually, a call to an
usher results in the desired effect of either quieting the
profanity. or causing the profaner to be ejected from the balloark.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who objects to this kind of language from F-M L-L (foul-mouthed, low-life's). Seems you can't go anywhere anymore without being subjected to this type of language coming out of the mouths of women, kids and whomever else.
