What's Up With This?

I have been a member (mostly lurker) of vpfree and vpmail for a few
years, and I just noticed something that has me perplexed.

Last week vpmail unveiled a new pay-to-view website called vpinsider
with a greatly enhanced database of video poker inventories. (The old
vpmail database was pretty general about numbers and locations of
machines compared to the huge amount of detail in vpfree). There's a
lot more detailed inventory data on vpinsider now but the funny thing
is A LOT of the information in this new website seems to be an exact
WORD FOR WORD COPY OF THE VPFREE DATABASE.

Here's what I'm talking about: I looked at some casinos that I'm
familiar with and most if not all the location details and number of
machines were exactly the same as in the vpfree database. I'm talking
about stuff like "2 25c slant-tops in the first bank west of the two
back-to-back change booths".

For example, the Rio and Frontier have a combined total of only six
game reports and two references to the number of machines (a "couple
of dozen" and a "bank") in the old vpmail database. Now, vpinsider
lists a combined total of 23 separate game reports, itemizes 119
different machines and includes location information details for all
of these games for these two casinos. Interestingly, the number of
machines and the location details for all 23 game report listings for
these two casinos is a WORD FOR WORD COPY FROM THE VPFREE DATABASE.

It appears to me that vpinsider didn't have the time, energy or
resources to compile a really detailed video poker inventory
database, so they decided to fill in A LOT of gaps by just copying
what already existed on vpfree. Maybe they had permission to use the
vpfree database, but I don't see any indication of this. Did they
think no one would notice? Or care?

I was a member of Skip's mail group from 1997 until it became a pay
group. I feel that Skip is a very conscientious person and that there
will be an explanation as soon as he reads this string. It was
suggested that the same person may have sent the same information to
vp-mail and vpFREE. Although I have no knowledge of Skip's site I
know that the information from the quote below came to this site from
me.

I was asked by ms vpfree about the Ace$ Bonus at the New Frontier on
12/30/04. This is a clip from my email to her.

There are 2 change booths back-to-back. The bank with the 2 AB
machines is the first bank west of the 2 change booths.
