What's the news across the nation...

From today's LVA Today's News, a blurb of interest:

"MGM Mirage announced today that it's entered into an agreement to sell its
Colorado Belle and Edgewater hotel-casinos located in Laughlin, Nevada, to a
group led by Anthony Marnell III for $200 million. Marnell is the son of Tony
Marnell II, founder of the Rio hotel-casino and Marnell Corrao Associates design
group, and is himself CEO of Tririga Inc., a Web-based database for the
design-build industry."

How about that. I missed again calling for Boyd to take over CB/EW.

So if I recollect correctly the original Rio was a good joint for VP players.
This was long before my time.

I knew MGM/Mirage had to bail out soon. They gave up on the Golden Nuggets.

We all could smell a sale happening, but where did these guys come
from? $200 million? I don't know, but that sure seems like a bargain
price to me. I keep reading about billions where Las Vegas hotels are
mentioned. The Flamingo sold less than a year ago for $170 million.
The CB and EW have about 2600 hotel rooms total, and the
Flamingo/Aquarius has 1800 rooms.

I was just thinking, and I believe that all the Laughlin properties
except the Riverside and the Pioneer have been, or are involved in
sales and new ownership recently. Folks- we may see lots of changes
happening down on the river.

Yea I guess when you look at it in that light (Flamingo sold for $170 million) this does look
like a bargain price. I don't know too much about the new owners. What I DO remember,
however, is that the Village Seafood Buffet at the Rio was a better buffet in my opinion
than it was after Harrah's took over. In fact, we ate at the buffet just last month and I left
with the attitude that if I didn't return any time soon it would be no big loss.

I enjoy VP at the Belle the way it is now. I hope they don't screw it up. Or better yet I hope
they make the VP at the Edgewater more inviting. Not easy to find 9/6 or 9/5 on bartops
or for that matter in any machine in Laughlin like it is at the Belle.

On a side note for any of you that are familiar with Reno, I read in a blog that the Cal Neva
recently installed a 6/5 blackjack table. If its true, woe is me. I wouldn't put Cal Neva on
the list of the most attractive casinos, but it always had a good reputation for paybacks.
