I don't know about the seasoned players here, but if I am playing and
the machine gave me more points than were due, I wouldn't even know it
in many cases. Except in Showboat and Harrahs (may be all the other
Harrahs Casinos now), a running display of points earned is not even
shown in real time in many casinos at Atlantic City.

Laughlin is pretty good about telling you about your comps and cashback
balances. But the Golden Nugget went after the casinos that didn't have full
discloser. The Golden Nugget always has let you know how many points and comp $
you have upon card insertion. It's neighbor, the Pioneer also follows this
policy. The River Palms does the discloser at the kiosks. Harrahs is cool too.

But the Golden Nugget went straight to the throats of some of the other
casinos on the River awhile back...Flamingo, Ramada and the Riverside. They ran
these great local TV commercials for a couple of years.

This guy comes up to a slot club booth with his card in hand and presents it
to the boothing. He asks if he has enough points for a lobster dinner. She
checks, nope.
Asks for a less food comp, nope. Asks again, nope. The then boothling
blasts a canned airhorn in this guys face and takes comfort in not giving anything
away. I just laugh my ass off, by far the best attack of a competitor.

I wish I brought a VCR to Laughlin to record this commercial. Mean Jean
Scott could use it in her seminars until she retires.

OMG ... I love it!

So tell me, was there a follow up in that ad campaign?

I can see the next commercial showing a player who poses a question to
a slot rep (e.g. "what's your gaming day?"), who then spins a dial to
arrive at a response repeated back with absolute authority.

Next player comes up, asks the same question, another dial spin, and
an entirely different reply (best effected with a side snicker to
another boothling).
