What exactly is a slot tourney?

I have been invited to one at the Bellagio, and I have no idea what they are
about but the winner gets like $20.000.
Can someone explain in enough detail so I can decide if I want to bother
going?Please?
Thanks!

Is it comped? If so, and it includes room you should go for it. All you do is sit at a machine for 2 or 3 15 to 20 minute sessions, and up the scores and pay the money. I would imagine the B also has an awards banquet to give out the money? I would definitely go for it - you will have a great time - and a great excuse to go to Vegas!

That's a good response, Steve. But, tournaments can also be 1 session or 4
sessions.

I participated in a (comped) video poker tournament at Green Valley Ranch
this past weekend. It was ONE session of 200 hands, per person. I ended up
with a measly 645 points. (I hit nothing higher than a flush in 200
hands!) This was my first tournament at GVR and found it was not run as
well as tournaments at other casinos (including other Station casinos). It
seemed to be a little unprofessional, compared to what I am used to. And,
aside from a string of balloons above the machines, there was NO
'entertainment' factor at all. It was actually quite boring.

Lately, Aladdin and Venetian have been having FOUR sessions in their
tournaments. Aladdin lets you drop the worse score and adds up the other
three scores for your grand total. Venetian's tournaments are sometimes two
one-day tournaments with two sessions each day. I assume that these casinos
are having more sessions, simply to keep the players in their casinos
longer.

Hey, Trudy. It is definitely worth while, if you don't have to pay an entry
fee. I've been in a lot of tournaments at a lot of different casinos (but,
not at Bellagio). Some are more fun than others, depending on what
entertainment they have. Treasure Island tournaments are the most fun I
have experienced. That's because they have a guy who acts as MC for the
whole event. He wears great costumes (themed to the event, of course) and
is very funny and entertaining.
