6c. Re: What Does Your VP Machine Know About YOU?
Date: Tue Nov 17, 2009 1:16 pm ((PST))"MindPlay" is a system, partially backed by the Reno Eldorado, that does this
for blackjack, but I concur with Bill that I know of no system yet for video
poker.
It's my understanding that the blackjack software can, by use of cameras, follow betting amounts and pattern, play of the cards, of course keep the count and correlate with correct play, and provide a statistical analysis of how likely it is that the bet and play variations are by chance, vs. by a skilled card counter.
Having a computer ID your play as 99% certain to be that of a card counter is not a pleasant concept -- of course, first there has to be enough suspicion for them to train the camera and software on you; I don't think they have enough of this stuff yet to track every player who sits down.
Seems like the data is much easier to obtain in VP, and that it wouldn't be long before it is collected and analyzed in the same way -- but quite honestly, just coin-in and the casino hold can give them a good idea over the long run -- the long run being long enough that someone "doing well" is more than 95-99% likely to be playing correct strategy. Of course, the risk for both blackjack card counters AND VP players is that the casino will bar someone who by pure coincidence does well (and in the case of BJ, happens to vary their bets, by chance, as a card counter would do by intent) - thus losing the "fish" they want to catch, not to mention the VERY bad PR arising from barring someone who did nothing wrong but "look bad".
But it's just so much easier for them to downgrade the paytable for VP, or change the rules for blackjack, and most players have no clue that this costs them money, and makes much more for the casino than all the AP-catching equipment in the world.
