Currently, I'm working on NSUD, but don't know how to find it in a
casino. Finding Jacks and Bonus Poker was easy, but I've never
seen
a machine marked NSUD. Is it called something else? I know what

look for in the pay table, but usually the outside of the machine
identifies what it is. I feel like it should be obvious, but I'm
completely in the dark, as I don't know much about deuce games
except
NSUD. Our next trip is next month, really want to play this game.

You may or may not know, NSUD stands for Not So Ugly Ducks. There
was a standard short-pay version of Deuces Wild that was found in a
lot of non-Nevada casinos that shorted the payback on four-of-a-
kind, compensating by raising the payback on the flush and full
house. This game was nicknamed (by several different people at
once) "Ugly Ducks", "ducks" being poker slang for deuces, and "ugly"
because even though it raised the payout on two hands and only
lowered the payiout on one, it paid back barely 98.9% instead of the
100.7% of the fullpay version. Subsequently, a version came out
which also increased the payout on the straight flush and the five
of a kind. This kicked the game back up to 99.7%. It is frequently
the best game you can find in many casinos, and can be playable with
decent slot club benefits, such as cashback. For that reason, it
came to be called, "(Not So) Ugly Ducks". The "Ugly Ducks" paytable
later came to be known as "Illinois Deuces" due to its prevalence
there, and due to the fact that several much uglier version of
Deuces Wild soon came out.
You will never see a game CALLED that by the manufacturer; it;s a VP
community moniker that has stuck. The easiest place to find the game
is in multiline games, or multigame multidenoms (Game Kings). I've
never seen it in a standalone game (although some casinos, like the
Orleans, that used to offer fullpay Deuces now offer this game in a
multidenom version.)
Here's the breakdown of the payoffs for the three games, starting
with the wild royal and descending (WRF-5K-SF-4K-FH-FL-ST-3K)
Fullpay DW: 25-15-9-5-3-2-1 (100.7%)
NSUD: 25-16-10-4-4-2-1 (99.7%)
Ugly Ducks: 25-15-9-4-4-2-1 (98.9%, I think)
Check the database for game locations and availability.
If you play NSUD, you must make strategy changes to account for the
differing payoffs for the flush, full house, and straight flush.
