What are the odds?

Many times when I have sat down at a deuces machine, someone will
tell me that they or someone else just got deuces on it and they
always seem frustrated that I choose to play it anyway. Funny thing
is - when I am told that before I even start playing I normally get
the deuces. Other times, I go deuce-less. errie huh?

We were playing in Pahrump over the weekend. Sat down at the bar

to play VP

and the bartender said, "someone hit 4 of a kind A's with a kicker

on that

machine this morning." He couldn't understand why it didn't

change my mind

about sitting at that machine. He said the machine should

be "left alone" for

awhile because no one would hit anything on it right now. We

laughed about

this all day.

Not really. The odds of getting a second Royal right after the

first are

the same as those of getting the first Royal <smile>.

And have you noticed, when someone does tell you of a big hit on the
machine you just sat down at, that they tend to do so with a certain
relish. There seems to be an unstated, "Well, you're not going to get
a hit now <heh heh heh>".

It feels particularly good when the cards play well and you can slyly
smile back with a tacit, "IN YOUR FACE!"

(Or does this sort of thing only go on in AC?)
