I'm eternally fascinated by variance preference of players. I have no
problem understanding where any one person comes from on the subject
... variance is the spice of vp play and some prefer a HOT diet

I'm one who, in absence of other motivation, prefers Jacks. My adage
is that if it's too dull for you, jump denomination. There's some
point at which the play gets real interesting

But there's nothing that compares with the thrill of a big hit (and
the optimistic hope that you might hang on to it for more than the
next hour). Still, I'm conservative in nature and a sizable short
term loss gives more stress than a near term credit spree yields
excitement. In contrast to me, most gamblers have their "eyes on the
prize".

In any case, ramp up game variance and you better add something to the
plate (namely, ER) if I'm going to partake. Notch up the return
sufficiently and I'll heartily play with the same enthusiasm with
which I enjoy an occasional curry or Szechuan entree.

I think that this is an interesting topic. I have different favorite
games depending on my mood, my bankroll, whether I'm playing on
the "right side of randomness", which casino I'm in, and what my
session objective is at the moment.

I have never met a VP game that I truly disliked. However, I would
never choose to play any game on Multi-Strike or Spin-Poker
platforms, if there were comparable STP or multi-line games to
select.

My all time favorite game, no matter my frame of mind or the
contents of my wallet, is FPKBJW. I am in VP heaven when I can find
this game at .25c to $1.00 denom.; an increasingly difficult chore.

Despite the fact that all JW games have complicated strategies, it
will always be my game of choice.

My second fav game is 10/6DDB. I love the excitement AND the
variance, and most particularly, the absolute delight when I've
popped the Aces with a kicker. However, because of the variance,
and the bankroll havoc it can create, I hesitate to play this game
at higher than the .50c level.

My 3rd choice would be any FP Deuce game, including FPDW, Downtown
Deuces, DDW, & NSUD. I don't enjoy LDW nearly much as the other
variations.

I have been very lucky, over the years, at snaring the Deuces. The
secondary 4 Ducks jackpot is a real morale boaster when you're
having a bad session, and can turn things around quickly.

My 4th fav game is 10/7DB. I enjoy playing this at .25/.50/$1.00.
Another very difficult strategy, but one that I've become familiar
with over many years. I use my own version of paying heed to
penalty cards. A sort of "modified penalty card strategy". i.e.,
If I instantly see the penalty card(s) I adjust my held cards
accordingly . If not, I don't actually LOOK for PC's, as this slows
me down too much. BTW, I DO think that I usually spot the PC's,
since, when playing WinPoker, my accuracy is usually 99.7% or higher.

DB would rank higher with me if I didn't constantly have to hold
hands that went against my natural instincts. Dealt hands such as
AdQd3d, A234, 4h6h9h really make me grit my teeth!

My 5th choice is a tie between 9/6JOB and 8/5BP. The only reason
that I put BP, with it's lower EV, in the same category as JOB, is
due to the bonus quads, which, particularly at $1.00 single-line,
or .25c multi-line, can save a dreadful session.

When I am REALLY hoping for a royal, or my bankroll has taken a big
hit, I always select 9/6JOB. I believe it's smoothest of all games,
and the one that allows you to hang the longest when encountering
bad lozing sessions.

I would be interested in the thoughts of others as to their favorite
plays.
