Hate to be a newbie (but I am either way), but any tips you can share for Wendover, drunk or otherwise?

Had a great time at the Karaoke bar last night. Did Positively Fourth Street dedicated to Bob Dancer.

In Wendover I played video blackjack to get the RFB. I played the 9/6 Jacks progs. at the Nugget whenever there was a decent number. I played poker and worked the sports books.

The 2/5 blind no-limit game at the Rainbow on the weekends was a moneymaker. So was the 1/2 blind no-limit game at Montego Bay. The rest of the time I played the 2 to 5 Kill game at the Rainbow. It's a very unique game. A fifty dollar pot killed it to 5/10. This kind of structure calls for playing tight, tight, tight on the 2 to 5 level. But the game played very loose. This is a bargain for a disciplined player because you're only paying $3 a lap in blinds but most of the hands dealt are at the 5/10 level.

The bad beat money rarely went to five figures because Aces full of anything beaten by four of a kind got the money. Both hole cards must play. This created some unique situations too. When you've got a pocket pair, say a pair of eights, and two aces come on the flop, normally the correct move is to get out of the way if there is any action. But in the Rainbow game you might be drawing to the bad beat. If the bettor has an ace in the hole his kicker has to play in order for the bad beat to be legitimate.

So you have to read the situation. Does the bettor have an ace in his hand? Will his kicker play? If the situation is right you're getting a big overlay to see the turn and the river to see if another ace comes. The bad beat hits about 30 or 35 times a year between the Rainbow and Montego Bay. I considered the bad beat table shares to be a part of my earn.

The sports betting situation was also unique in Wendover. The Nugget had a Leroy's satellite book. The Leroy's lines are known as the sharpest in the world. Meanwhile the Rainbow/Montego Bay lines bounced all over the place. The one drawback is Rainbow/Montego had a $550 cap on side and total bets.

Early in the day I would go get a printout from the Nugget then go get a printout from Montego Bay and compare the lines. There were lots of games where there was already a half point or one point difference. I was looking for two point middle situations which I got a lot of.

Most of the line movement occurs just before the game gets underway. The lines move toward the favorite because of unsophisticated bettors who never seen a favorite they didn't like. The money is coming in lopsided and Rainbow/Montego don't give the favorite bettors any breaks.

The Rainbow book was right next to the poker room so I would occasionally get up and go check the lines. I had the Leroy's printout with me and knew what the sharp lines were. When I found a Rainbow 2 point move toward the favorite I would bet the dog. This technique is called steam betting. It works well for totals too.

Just kidding about the song, Bob.
