Just thought anyone on there way to Vegas might be interested in next 2
week's forecast - rain off and on .... arrghh. Right now we've had about 1 inch
of rain today and flash flood warnings have been issued for some areas. Rain
should taper off tomorrow but bands of rain from the West Coast will be
moving in and out of the area for the next 14 days.
Bring an umbrella. Also figure high 40s to low 50s during day here. Layers
are always good - like a sweater under a hooded jacket. I wore gloves and a
winter pull-down hat today in the rain (under umbrella).
FIREWORKS - could be affected by rain. They will have to decide on the day
(perhaps hour of) New Year's Fireworks. If there is over 10 mph wind they
would cancel fireworks show, which could happen during upcoming storms.

Today we rode the monorail which was free during special "Hi there - it's
working again" promotion. The cars were absolutely packed - so much so that we
couldn't board the first train we saw. Today was the last free day, which
is probably just as well. The monorail worked well, though the partially
outdoor stations didn't work all that well in wet and windy weather -- with wet
floors marked with "slippery" signs, drips, and so on. The trains ran a lot
slower, possibly due to combinations of extremely full cars and rain.
Note - CES will be in town Jan. 5-9, so large crowds can be expected getting
on at LV Hilton and Las Vegas Convention Center (if not elsewhere).
Also expect the monorail to be quite crowded on New Year's Eve and Day. It
will be closed for an hour or so right around midnight. If it is as crowded
as today, avoid if you have small kids or handicapped people with you.
Remember, there are no attendants on train or in the actual station to help with
loading, so crowded conditions could be dangerous to small ones.
As I previously posted, avoid taking small kids onto the strip with you to
view fireworks.
The good news is if it is rainy, maybe fewer people will be out on the
strip. Also once they start charging for the monorail again, crowds should be a
lot smaller.
Save $ on the Monorail by buying a 10 trip ticket and using it for several
people on several trips ($2 per trip). There are no transfers to the regular
CAT bus system.

Casinos will be quite crowded during New Year's weekend, and with the rain,
people will tend to stay inside their casinos. Expect table limits to go
even higher.
By the way - whatever happened to $5 tables in Vegas? Recently it has
started to look more like Atlantic City to me in Vegas. Even at local casinos I'm
seeing crowded tables you have to circle to find seats at, $25 and even $50
tables, and it is hard to spot $5 and $10 levels at BJ and even roulette. Of
course, most of us play a lot of VP, so this may not be too important.
Those BJ pay 6 to 5 tables are everywhere too -- ugh -- and people who play seem
to think it doesn't matter much -- they are bewitched by the myth of "single
deck" being good. Someone needs to write a lot more articles in Casino
Player about this disturbing trend. 6 to 5 on single deck will soon be followed
by 6 to 5 on double deck and then shoes in my opinion. What's next, hit a
roulette number and get paid 33 to 1??
Oh gee - I guess I'm editorializing instead of talking about the weather or
monorail....hmm I'm getting wacky at 2 a.m.
