Wearing Headphones While Playing VP

Since my last visit to Las Vegas, I've bought an MP3 player. I'm
thinking that wearing my headphones and listening to my selection of
tunes would help me concentrate better while playing VP. It would drown
out distracting nearby conversations, and would override the casino's
selection of music, which is often not to my taste. I've been
practicing at home while wearing my headphones and it really helps when
I can drown out the sound of the TV in the living room.

What's the prevailing opinion on the issue? Is it frowned upon?
Accepted? Who cares? Anybody else do this? How often do you see it?

Thanks.

I just got this same "religion" my last visit a few weeks back. One of
my travel accomplices plugged me into her ipod when the p.a. announcer
at peppermill_reno was squawking particular bland drivel. I
immediately felt bliss listening to an old Pink Floyd song. The ear-
plug device tuned out 90% of the cacophony which is a casino. If you
want even more noise reduction, my friends say go for BOSE headphones.
They swear by them for airplane travel and I noticed them using them
quite a bit last casino trip.

I gotta get me an ipod ASAP before my next trip. I can't wait. I see
now why LOTS of people use them all the time, at work and everywhere.

I would be VERY surprised if anyone questioned this sort of
electronic "device" in a casino, especially sitting at a VP machine.
With the player in your pocket and an earplug type speaker, nobody
would even notice. My friends added that they request from each new
waitress that she tap them on the shoulder in case they don't hear the
cry of "Cocktails!".

I might have to add a new column to my jackpot log: "song". What was
playing when I hit the quad or higher. Yeah!

I have listened to books on tape and/or mp3's daily in LV casinos
for many years while playing VP. I've never received any static
from a casino employee for so doing.

For the last couple of years, I've used a single ear speaker,
because that let's me monitor my cell phone more effectively.

I never play any other way. The only time I had any trouble was when
1 security guard at Golden Nugget decided to make up her own Gaming
regulation prohibiting it. Her moron boss backed her up.

I see it most commonly with the regular players, most of whom are advantage players. It's a
pretty common sight here in Vegas, especially at the locals casinos. I take my ipod if I'll be
playing more than an hour anywhere and I love using it for the main reason that it makes
time fly! One drawback is that you have to keep it at a decent level to protect your ears, but
then it doesn't always drown out the background noise, especially if the casino's music is
loud, so you get dual tunes. There are special noise-reducing earplugs you can buy that help
significantly, but they'll cost you. I think I'll be investing in a pair, though.

Well worth the investment.

When I am travelling (and gambling) by myself, I listen to my iPod while
playing. I have never had any problems. Except....sometimes, the cocktail
waitresses "get into my face" trying to offer me drinks. I find this very
annoying, since I never drink while playing. Most waitresses simply ignore
me, when I have my headphones on. But, sometimes, they're a little pushy.
And, the ones that are pushy are always in the High Limit area.

FWIW, I connect my Bose headphones directly into my iPod and they work
wonderfully.

My prevailing opinion is that the clamor of a casino can sometimes be
distracting and the canned music on the PA makes my soul shrivel up into a
defensive fetal position and leaves me wondering if the apocalypse is nigh.
I prefer to lighten things up by inserting my own soundtrack and have been
using an MP3 player while playing alone for some time now. The only problem
I've ever had is when the battery runs low.
