I hope the two CT tribes that sought recognition get their casinos
built. (The State is trying to appeal their approval.) One is in
western CT, the other in southeastern, CT. You need at least three
places to really create a competition.
The public is afraid of two things. If these two tribes get
recogintion, where does it all end? We'll have 45 casinos pop up and
Connecticut will be called "Vegas East." This can not happen;
federal recognition is very stringent and difficult and there is only
a small finite number of tribes who have a shot at it. Donald Trump
gave up over 2 million to help the two recent tribes with their
application. The other is as one woman reported in a local paper, "I
don't know if those people are ones I associate with." Does she mean
the ones in high heels, dresses, and expensive clothing coming from
the wine tasting or classic car show. Or is she referring to the
image in her mind of the ones seen coming from the Liquor Depot who
loiter in front of the OTB parlors in Salvation Army rags on welfare
check day.
