The worst place I found was playing recently at the Gold Dust West in
Reno. This place is kind of a dump, and anything over $100 is a handpay
on the plentiful coin machines. I did find some full pay Pick'em though.
What denomination Pick 'em do they have at Gold Dust West?
(Speaking of Pick 'em...and as an FYI for the database...it seems like the
multidenominational Pick 'em that's listed for the Cal-Neva are either gone or
moved to someplace that I couldn't find. There's also a fairly good
selection of .25 and $ Pick 'em at the "Winner's Casino" in Winnemucca.)
In reference to hand pays, you'll notice that many machines (older) have the
note that they only pay out in coins up to 1000 credits. A recent humorous
(or is it pathetic) example of "mandatory hand pays" is at the Stockmen's
Casino here in Elko- their coin counting machine won't count dimes anymore, so
ANY payout on their .10 machines is a hand pay. (Just as well: even when it
was working, it always shorted the count by at least ten coins, as well as
often counting the occasional dime as a penny.) It's funny to watch the
reactions when somebody tries to cash out two or three dollars and the first thing
they get is the machine playing "We're in the Money" and the "call attendant"
message flashing on the screen.
