That was at the Rampart and they gave me a very hard time about it. Finally
they gave me the money after about an hour of suits talking among themselves
and expressing shock that 'their' machine could possibly malfunction.

I have had the same experience a few times, when attempting to
consolidate several small tickets. Once, at the Peppermill, in
Reno, it took more than an hour of consulting with mechanics,
security and suits, before the full ticket value was given to me.

However, the most annoying experience I've had with an automatic
cash-out machine, was at the El Cortez. It was NOT for TITO
redemption, but for coin redemption.

This machine, which had an opening into which you poured your coins
for counting and cash out, was located just to the right of the
alcove across from Roberta's. I used it quite frequently, and it
sometimes seemed to pay off an amount that was less than the total
of the coins than I thought I had dumped in. Since I usually cashed
out my coins at some pre-determined even amount (typically $100,
$150, $200, etc) it was easy for me to realize that I wasn't being
paid properly. To my knowledge it NEVER made a mistake in favor of
the PLAYER either.

When it "only" shorted me a few coins, I forgot about it, assuming
that had I had left the coins in the bottom of the coin bin.
However, one day it shorted me over $20.00. Though there was a line
behind me waiting to cash out, I refused to relinquinsh the machine
until mechanics were called to address my problem. Though there was
considerable grumbling about this, the crowd dispersed, thinking, no
doubt, that they didn't want to watch their coins disappear as mine
had.

The mechanics, with 3 suits watching the procedure, opened the back
of the machine, and attempted to find the problem. After trying for
over an hour, they decided that they could not determine the problem.
Finally, primarily, I'm sure, because I've stayed at the EC for
years, and am known well there, they took my word for loss, paid me
the full amount, and shut down the machine. I presume they
eventually solved the mystery since the machine was in use the next
day. Not by me, however!
