WARNING when using TITO. It happened to me

Private email to Administrator:

Hi everyone-

It's almost 1 a.m. and I'm nowhere ready for sleep.
I had a bizzarre experience at Trump Plaza tonight, and this should
serve as a warning when using TITO machines to redeem tickets.
First the good news. My royal drought is finally over. I met a buddy
at the Plaza, and was playing 9/7 DB, when I saw a host of high diamonds
come up. I wasn't quite sure, and it took a moment to sink in. A dealt
royal! I freaked, as it's been a couple years since I had one of these.
Played a little bit and went to the machine to cash it in.
Here's the weird part. The machine was out of Benjis, and I got a big
wad of smaller bills. I took the wad and walked away, not wanting to
stand and count it with people behind me in line. When I went to the
cage to turn it into Benjis, the clerk counted it and only half my
jackpot was there. I immediately got a slot attendant, pointed out my
cashout on the machine (that my buddy had held as evidence). They opened
up the redemption machine, and the full amount was listed. The attendant
said it should all come out in one lump sum in one wad. He called
security, who went to look at the surveillance tape. A review of the
tape revealed that the machine delivered my payout in TWO wads, and the
man behind me in line took the other half of my winnings and walked off
with it. Of course, he quickly left the property. The whole process took
an hour, while I waited with the attendant at the redemption machine.
I filled out an incident report with the supervisor. I asked am I SOL
and out several hundred bucks. He said he can't authorize to reimburse
me. The bosses will look at the situation and my level of play, and make
a decision.
I must add, that all Trump Plaza staff were quite professional and
sympathetic, and the two attendants said they had never seen the machine
dispense a payout in two separate bundles. One of the attendants, who
waited with me for nearly an hour, refused a tip when I offered it.
My strong guess is that the Plaza will reimburse me, given that I'm a
heavy-duty player and it will generate good will. I'll report on that to
follow up.
Meanwhile, I am feeling like a complete idiot for leaving half my
jackpot in the machine, even though I'd never heard of the machine
dispensing in two bundles. My goal was to keep the line moving, and not
call attention to myself by counting a large wad of bills at the
machine. I consider myself pretty savvy about these things, and got
taken by a less-than-honest man in line behind me.
So everyone, if you use a TITO redemption machine, please make sure
you have all your money before leaving, especially if you're cashing out
a large amount.
vpFree administrator, please post this on vpFree as well. I'm sure
this happens in Vegas too.

Wow. That is one heck of a story. I have made it a point of only
cashing TITO tickets with a live cashier after being cheated out of
a whole dollar at one of the Rampart casino redemption machines. But
this was after more than a few shortages of 25c or 50c that I just
didn't want to deal with waiting around for.

Last Monday at MonteLago, one of the cashiers started up with me for
bringing up individual tickets. I told her that it was her job to
scan each ticket, and if there was a problem, then why not just
bring the shift manager to the cage to discuss the issue in person.
That seemed to shut her up, but in spite, I brought back eight
tickets about an hour later just to see the look on her face.

I too eschew the ticket redemption machines. However, those like
myself would strongly prefer that you consolidate your tickets before
bringing them to the window. It's a simple courtesy to keep the lines
flowing.

This has happened to me, but I was caugh as I was walking away (still counting) by an honest person. Another time it happened to the person in front of me. By the time I noticed the bills in the machine, he had left. I finished my transaction and walked the dough over to the security desk. Don't know if he got it back or not. Never leave the ticket machine area until you count your money! You can always step aside and let the next person go, while you count.

I neither esmoke or eschew, but do agree with Harry that consolidating your tickets is the considerate thing to do.

The last time I used a machine to cash a TITO ticket (MS in IN), the
machine spit out a thick wad of bills that included $5 bills and $10
bills (which I found terribly annoying). I stood there and counted
the wad. There was a line formed behind me and one man in
particular "bawled me out" for counting the wad before I moved to
allow the next person in line to use the machine. Ask me if I cared
what he said and the answer would be "NO!" I was not going to leave
unless I was certain I received all that I had coming to me. That
took longer due to the poor planning of the casino (not enough large
bills in the machine) and I refuse to feel bad about that.

This story is not meant to chastise you... it merely confirms that I
made the correct choice. Thanks for sharing.

Hi there Skip

I used to do that. At the Taj I was consolidating some tickets. One
of
the tickets inserted, about 4th in line, took ticket and didn't coin
up. Called for service. Couldn't find super to open bill collector.
It
took the guys in computer room and slot service guy about an hour to
figure out what happened. The slot attendant thought I was a crook. I
was grilled about why I would put in so many tickets. As far as I am
concerned, I'll be considerate to myself and not take chance of the
casino stealing another hour of my time with bad service as I have
endured hundreds of times over the years. I also eliminate risk of
being looked at like I did something wrong.

Sorry to feel this way, but think back to the last time a bill
didn't
credit up for you. It happens and it's time lost waiting for service.

Cheers....Jeep

Yeah, I've had ticket printers fail, run out of tickets and so on (usually it's the paper). I once had a really strange thing happen. I had been playing two machines (gasp) at the Suncoast and cashed them both out at the same time and for the same amount. A few minutes later I put one of them (I thought) into a machine at a different bank. I then realized I couldn't find the other one. Only one thing could have happened - they stuck together and ony the top one got read. The problem is that they cannot take out the box the tickets go in. So there was no immediate way to verify it. I identified the machines I had been playing (where the tickets came from), the amount of both tickets and so on and after getting all my id information, they paid me. It took over an hour, but I understood (after all in this case I created the problem). The next day they gave me a call and told me that they were able to verify that everything happened exactly as I said it did. Kudos to the SC for the way they handled this.

I have had machines run out of paper when I was combining tickets to cash in. It will happen. I still do it, but I understand how you feel.
