W2Gs and SS#

Is anyone else nervous about giving one's SS# to so many different casino employees? This is one of the main reasons I don't play at higher levels. It seems like you are asking for trouble.

Yes, but it's part of the process. I cannot imagine passing up a quarter
prog just because it's above $1200. That's when I want to hit it.

If you allow yourself to become nervous, then you'll never do things like apply for a credit card, car loan or buy a house. How do you know the evildoer doesn't work for the bank? You trust CITI more than Steve Wynn?

The reality is that all information on you is already "out there" anyway. Your best line of defense is to monitor every account frequently. It is your responsibility.

FOR EXAMPLE: I was laid off a job a few years ago and applied for unemployment. The benefits statement from California (showing my weekly check amount) cited two employers I never had. It turns out that an individual used my Social Security number (but obviously not my name) at those jobs.

I immediately filed a police report and the necessary paperwork with the unemployment department. The obvious result is that the two employers were notified. But, more importantly, I protected my identity by being vigilant. And simultaneously I probably avoided potential IRS unreported income complications down the road.
