Anyone who's been a victim of ID theft will tell you that precaution
is well worth the hassle of dealing with someone who makes an invalid
request for SSN documentation (which is the case of any casino who
asks for proof ... your signed statement is all that the IRS requires).

I was a victim of ID theft and was told not to carry SS card. I am 66 years
old. The problem is the medical community says to carry your Medicare card.
which is nothing more than your SS number and a letter or two.

Catch 22...no?

No doubt ... and when did you ever expect that there wouldn't be an
inconsistency with anything government dealings from time to time?

I didn't puruse the AZ website guidance closely. However, I did
notice that there were circumstances under which they recommend that
you photocopy documents with your SSN and black out the SSN's.

I can't say whether this is practical with your Medicare card. I have
every reason to expect that in the case of any other insurance cards,
a provider would verbally accept the missing SS digits (perhaps
subject to phone confirmation from the insurer).

Mind you, I'm only parroting what's been advised, and don't necessary
follow this guidance. In the case of my insurer card, it indeed has
my SSN. They've advised us that it will be replaced in the near
future with one that uses an alternate ID number.

I called the Nevada Gaming Commission today and they assured me that
all you need to claim a jackpot is a valid photo ID and that you are
NOT REQUIRED to show your SS Card or to have proof of it. We're coming
in from out of town and I'd prefer not to bring my SS Card. I'm not
scared of casino employees getting the #; I'm afraid that it might get
lost or stolen at some point during the trip and that hooligans might
get ahold of it! Identity Theft IS a big problem!
