CD,
You are so right, sir! Anything taxable will be taxed, simply because (as
Mallory said of Everest) it's THERE. One more reason to go to a VAT or
consumption tax and abolish the IRS.
On a more visceral level: wing it on the 1040, then reconstruct like hell
when you get the audit notice (roughly a 1% chance). Yeah, if you really screw
up you could even be prosecuted for tax evasion--just like the 200-2000 losers
a year that are actually prosecuted by U.S attys (out of 200,000,000
taxpayers).
How'd you like them odds, CD???

You better report your winnings or you will surely be audited . It may take years but they will check to see why your w2g was not included as income. Yep it happened to me because of a 5 dollar error in reporting the w2g amount.
