Hi, I was denied membership in the vpmail group. Anyone know why

I was also denied, you have to be a paying subscriber to another service in order to be part of that group.

vpmail was the old group name and it was made inactive. The new group
is called vp-mail. It is a subscription service so that may also be
part of your problem.
