Skip Hughes and I apparently miscommunicated in our private emails
about my "don't include the past history comments" suggestion. Since
they were mentioned, but not explained, I feel that some some
explanation is needed.

Skip sent me a long private email before he posted his response on
vpFREE. It explained what had happened and seemed apologetic,
conciliatory and friendly. He asked how I wanted to handle things, and
I suggested that he post a complete explanation on vpFREE, thinking
that he would use what he had just sent me, after omitting several
irrelevant portions of his email. I didn't think he intended to include
his past history references, which I thought we both considered
irrelevant. To be sure, I specifically suggested that they be omitted.

If I had thought that Skip considered the past history references in
his post to be relevant, and wanted to offer them in his defense, I
would never have suggested their omission. Since he now infers that
this was indeed the case, and that he would have posted them if I
hadn't suggested otherwise, I'll summarize (not having his permission
to quote them directly) the past history comments that he sent to me:

···

-----------------------------------------------

1. Skip has always checked vpFREE, and he knows (without specifying how
he knows) that I have always checked vpmail.

2. Skip recalled a single email complaint from an angry vpmail member
that he received about 4 years ago. The member thought that vpFREE
had copied something from vpmail, and Skip answered the complaint
by saying that vpFREE didn't necessarily copy anything, and that if any
copying was done he believed it set a precedent that would be
beneficial to vpmail in the long run.

3. Skip said that information from vpFREE appears on vpmail and vice
versa, and that this works more to vpmail's benefit.

-----------------------------------------------

I wouldn't have suggested the omission of his past history comments, if
I had thought that he considered them to be relevant. Hopefully, this
explains what I suggested about past history and why.

Tom;

I agreed completely with the idea that it was best to leave that alone*, and didn't mean to imply that you were censoring me or anything like that. I guess I might have given that impression. Again, I have to apologize.

*Once we start down that road, it could get into a "he said this, he said that, he did this, he did that", kind of situation. This could go on for a long time. I figured that's what you wanted to avoid and I agreed. I only mentioned it to indicate that none of this happens in a vacuum.

I should have been more precise and said "Tom suggested I not comment on it, and I agree, and I won't."

I still won't.
Thanks,
Skip
