I am also puzzled by the update process. Is there no requirement that those who volunteer to monitor a casino do so periodically, at least quarterly, for example? If they can't do that, then they should not be monitors.

FYI, this is the excerpt from vpFREE2:
Become a Casino Monitor!
Thank you very much for your interest in becoming a Casino Monitor. Our
monitors are crucial to keeping vpFREE2 up-to-date and provide value to
all our users. Becoming a monitor is easy and is greatly appreciated by
the entire vpFREE2 community. Plus, it's easier than you think and you
don't need to live at the casino!
To become a monitor you'll need:
* To become a member of vpFREE2 (signup is free and gives you access
to advanced features)
* A modern web browser such as Firefox 3, Safari 3, or IE 7
* An email account where user feedback can be sent (your email
address is never disclosed)
* Some Familiar with the casino(s) you're monitoring
* To be a regular reader of vpFREE forums and your email
* A desire to improve the vpFREE2 community knowledge base
And your duties will include:
* Reading incoming feedback emails and making the appropriate
updates to the casino(s) you monitor
* Monitoring the vpFREE forums for changes in the casino(s) you
monitor and updating where appropriate
* Visiting the casino(s) from time to time is helpful but not required!

There is no requirement for monitors to visit a casino regularly, though most do.
The monitor's primary responsibility is to make the updates to the casino pages (using an online, monitors-only interface). To make these updates, they synthesize information from a variety of sources, including their own experiences, reports sent in using the online vpfree2 forms, and yahoo group postings.
In the past, before vpfree2, the actual database updates were very often made by someone who had NEVER been to the casino being updated. That is, the updates were made without the benefit of any relevant personal experience with the particular casino (visits, etc). Compared to this, we believe the situation with vpfree2 represents a welcome improvement. Indeed, most, if not all, vpfree2 monitors have first hand knowledge of the casinos they monitor, even if they do not visit them regulary to perform inventory checks themselves (though many do just that).
Clearly, there are some kinks with the new system that still need to be worked out and we welcome your suggestions on how to improve the site.
