Sheldon Adelson is an Orthodox Jew and very pro-Israel. Many Orthodox Jews
consider support for Israel their number one concern in American politics. (Very
similarly, many Evangelical Christians consider eliminating abortion rights
their number one concern in American politics.) The Republican Party has in
recent years been more pro-Israel than the Democratic Party (Obama has been just
about the worst president for American-Israeli relations). Newt Gingrich is the
only candidate that has consistently voiced ardent support for Israel.
Fundamentalists like Huckabee, Adelson, etc tend to work well together because
they feel they are fighting the same fight...trying to bend the secular masses
to believe in their ultimate truth. Adelson and Huckabee would have fit together
over the dinner table like boyhood friends that just got together after 30
years.
