[vpFREE] Saving pennies - Bob Dancer's "Flow Chart" for Penalty Cards

Dancer states in his column:

"Rising to the top of this heap isn't easy, given the wealth of
information available to everyone else. "

Then follows that with:

"One of the ways I stay in the top 5% is to concentrate on learning the
games perfectly --- "

How do you interpret this? It looks to me like he is stating you MUST
use penalty cards (that's what "perfectly" means) to be successful
which is exactly what I said.

2. This quote says nothing about HAVING TO USE penalty cards to be
successful. He's only reporting how he stays in the top 5%.

As for his statement contradicting what I wrote ... are you serious?

Very.

Now fast forward to Nov. 12 and Dancer states:

"My position is that if you wish to be in the top few percent of
players that you have to be a better player than the rest of the
folks.

...

For me, I use penalty cards to help me stay at that level. Can you
do it another way? Of course. If you're at that level and want to
explain how you do it, I'm sure that this forum would love to hear
what you have to say."

If you can read this any other way than YOU MUST USE PENALTY
CARDS TO BE SUCCESSFUL, please explain.

2. This quote only reports that he uses penalty cards to stay at that level.
It also specifically states: "Can you do it another way? Of course."

Saying that there may be another way that no
one has ever divulged is just another way of saying there is no other
way (which was his meaning in the statement you quoted as well).

That's not what he says. He says it can be done another way ie ... without using penalty cards.

Getting back to your assertion:

Even if you could have documented that:

"Dancer has taken the position in his column and his recent posts that you MUST use penalty cards
TO RANK IN THE TOP 5% OF PLAYERS."

which you haven't by any means, YOU HAVEN'T OFFERED ANY DOCUMENTATION for your actual statement:

"Dancer has taken the position in his column and his recent posts that you MUST use penalty cards
TO BE CONSIDERED SUCCESSFUL."

which doesn't require being in the top 5% of all players.

I don't think Dancer believes or has ever said what you asserted.

Your arguments here are illogical. There's nothing more I can add
that can make it any clearer. I cannot phathom why you would choose
to take this position. Your inability to understand a "tongue in
cheek" statement ("Can you do it another way? Of course.") does not
change the fact that it was clearly meant to reiterate that he
doesn't believe there are any other ways (If you're at that level and
want to explain how you do it, I'm sure that this forum would love to
hear what you have to say.").

Only if I see Dancer posting a remark like ... Using penalty cards
makes little difference in the success of any VP player ... will I
change my interpretation of his statements. Do you really believe he
would ever make such a statement?

Note, I have no problem with Dancer having the opinion that you MUST
use penalty cards to be successful. I just happen to disagree with
that position.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. You're wrong. Why, because the admin
said so and your name isn't Dancer. If your name is
Dancer your words are magical and can not offend or
be wrong. Indeed, if someone else's words may offend
Dancer, they must be spoken here, not at the grown-up's
table. Sheesh, some people just don't get it. I wish
Harry would tell the admin it's time to move the current
debate off VPFREE over here. It seems as if significantly
more mundance things have been put over here. But then the
rules are a little different for some people. But of course
I'm wrong too! Oink!
