I would like to see some documentation for this statement. The
closest
I recall was from his 8 Nov column, which contradicts your
assertion:
"Is it possible to be in the upper 5% while ignoring penalty cards?
Of
course. But the players who can do it aren't talking. If and when
they do,
the parameters of what it takes to be in the top 5% will change
again."

Dancer states in his column:
"Rising to the top of this heap isn't easy, given the wealth of
information available to everyone else. "
Then follows that with:
"One of the ways I stay in the top 5% is to concentrate on learning
the games perfectly --- "
How do you interpret this? It looks to me like he is stating you MUST
use penalty cards (that's what "perfectly" means) to be successful
which is exactly what I said.
As for his statement contradicting what I wrote ... are you serious?
Now fast forward to Nov. 12 and Dancer states:
"My position is that if you wish to be in the top few percent of
players that you have to be a better player than the rest of the
folks.
...
For me, I use penalty cards to help me stay at that level. Can you
do it another way? Of course. If you're at that level and want to
explain how you do it, I'm sure that this forum would love to hear
what you have to say."
If you can read this any other way than YOU MUST USE PENALTY CARDS TO
BE SUCCESSFUL, please explain. Saying that there may be another way
that no one has ever divulged is just another way of saying there is
no other way (which was his meaning in the statement you quoted as
well).
