I am not surprised. Herbst Gaming is in technical default on their
debt and their excuse is the smoking ban here in Nevada (re: slot
route operations). Source? The Las Vegas Review Journal.

Don't you just love living in the land of so-called freedom?

Any one really surprised?

So, what's the value to Herbst of lying about the reason for their
downturn in profits?

The Mohave Daily News compared the profit / loss for November 2007 to
November 2006.

-9.3% Downtown LV

-19.1% Las Vegas strip

-20.9 Boulder strip

-28.7% North LV

Yeah, it must be the non-smoking ban

I'm not sure if that's consistent with this:

"The Las Vegas Strip win of $6.83 billion was up 2.1 percent over
the 2006 win. For all of Clark County, encompassing the Strip,
downtown Las Vegas and other southern Nevada cities, the total was
$10.87 billion, also up 2.1 percent."

which was posted here:

But, I'm not sure what an overall win or loss for any part of the
state in general has to do with Herbst declaring a loss and blaming
it, in part, on the smoking ban.
