I would like to know who owns this site, just curious.
If it's a secret, why is it a secret?

I am the owner of vpFREE.

How about your motive? Is that a secret? Are you raking in the dough
from some advertising that we're not aware of?

I heartily endorse the well deserved accolades expressed by Patricia
and Michael, as well as many others. I believe that most forum
members would agree.
OTOH, I am appalled by the gratuitously mean-spirited comment from Tom
Robertson. I also don't think that the cute smiley-face at the end of
the last sentence, negates the meaning of his post.

Tom's post was obviously a joke. (Although, not particularly funny.)
The meaning of his post was humor....and the smiley face just
reinforced that meaning.
If someone finds that kind of joke appalling, they must be appalled
a lot, based on the messages I've seen from this group!
"appalled"
adjective
struck with fear, dread, or consternation [syn: aghast]

The primary purpose of my message was to seriously ask a question
about which I'm curious. The (extraordinarily funny) joke was meant
to make it come across as more tactful and light - hearted than if I
had very simply and bluntly asked the administrator why he's doing
this, as comes naturally to me. My experience with Web sites from
which I derive value without having to pay for it is that they make
money by advertising or by giving members a free trial that will
induce them to pay for it after the free period ends. I'm not aware
of how vpFree does either, so I wonder why it exists. "The
Godfather," parts 1 and 2, is my favorite movie. Mario Puzo must be a
great story teller. But I was very disappointed with his interview on
"Larry King." Larry asked him why he wrote something (part 3,
possibly) and he simply said, in a rather "low life" way, "for the
money." I was hoping for some grand motive such as to tell the world
how organized crime really works or something that was in some way
altruistic. Maybe it has to do with losing, but missing, my own
altruism. Thinking of selfishness as the ultimate virtue just doesn't
feel as good as thinking of altruism that way does. Assuming the
administrator has no selfish reason for doing it, maybe understanding
that can give me a reason to get it back. Is he going to charge us
for membership eventually?
You haven't noticed the ads that Yahoo appends to every single message that
comes across this list?

The following content was on the right side of both your replies - three ads
for Yahoo products and services. If you read vpFREE on yahoogroups.com,
there are plenty of ads there as well.
My point being, our esteemed administrator may "own" the list in the sense
that he runs the list, but for the purposes of revenue, it's Yahoo that has
the rights to sell advertising or otherwise generate revenue on these
emails, and not our anonymous and altruistic man behind the curtain. List
admins get no financial benefit from running a Yahoo group.

None on mine either, except for a couple text only way at the bottom of
the page which I'd never seen before this thread.

vpFae started vpFREE because he believed that a free video poker forum
would be a valuable service to the video poker community.
Giving something back to the community has continued to be the
primary motivating factor.
Are you raking in the dough from some advertising that we're
not aware of?
The following paragraph from vpFREE Rules has been part of our
mission statement since day one:
"NON-PROFIT: vpFREE is, and will always remain, a non-profit
operation. Neither vpFREE nor the vpFREE Administrator has any
financial interest, direct or indirect, in any commercial video
poker related product or endeavor."
I'll expand on that by saying that neither vpFae nor myself have
ever received or realized any direct or indirect income from or relating
to our involvement with vpFREE. On the contrary, we've had minor
out of pocket expenses that amount to less than $100.
vpFREE Administrator
I get them but I use yahoo for email and they put them on, I always thought. If he makes money?? So what? More power to him:)
