Hi everyone,

This is off-topic from the gambling chat. I know this may sound like dumb question (there is not such a thing as a dumb question if you don't know the answer) but I'm not at all familiar with LV's airport - and having only been to LV once, not that familiar with LV at all. In fact, I'm not much of a traveler as it is - So here is my question:

Can I catch a shuttle from the airport to the place I'm staying (Excaliber) without making a reservation, or do I need to call ahead and make a reservation with one of the companies I found on my search of the subject?

I figure for my return flight, I probably need to call ahead to one and ask them to pick me up at a certain time. Is this correct?

I found several companies - Bell Trans, CLS, Grayline, Las Vegas Limo, ODS, and Showtime. All are comparably priced for shuttle service. Do any of you have a recommendation of which to use?

I'm going to be staying at the Excaliber to display at a convention being held at the Mandalay and hope to perhaps do a bit of VP while there, but know I'm not going to find in full pay the one game I know well enough to feel comfortable with (Deuces Wild) - but at least I can have a little fun - and who knows I just might be lucky - huh uh.

Thanks in Advance for any answers.

  Jen

Suggest going to the McCarran Airport website (here's the link):
http://www.mccarran.com/
Near the top right of the page click on the tab "Ground
Transportation" and in the drop-down list click on "Shuttles and
Limos". You'll see listing of shuttle bus services between the
airport and various destinations. Many of the services offer
extremely reasonable rates with both one-way or round-trip tickets
available.

-----------------

For my first trip to Vegas last month, I made ground transportation
arrangements when I booked the flight through Hotels.com. The
transportation company used was Grayline/Coach USA. The shuttle/limo
stands are lined up outside the baggage claim area. It does not
appear that arrangements have to made in advance - just go up to the
booth, pay the fee, and they will give you a receipt / ticket for the
driver. They will also tell you which line to stand in depending on
your hotel. I found the service to be quite efficient. You may have
to wait if you just missed the van or if there are alot of people
waiting.

For a trip last month to Caesars Palace, I purchased the
transportation through the Harrah's hotel check-in at the airport.
They used Showtime (I believe). The wait for the shuttle was much
longer than that I experienced with Grayline.

--------------

I figure for my return flight, I probably need to call ahead to

one and ask them to pick me up at a certain time. Is this correct?

--------------

I would suggest purchasing the round trip ticket. You will save a
couple bucks and you just have to call the number on the ticket the
day before you are going to leave so they can schedule the pick-up.
They may ask when your flight is then tell you when they are picking
you up or they may just ask when you want to be picked up - it
depends on the company.

---------------

I found several companies - Bell Trans, CLS, Grayline, Las Vegas

Limo, ODS, and Showtime. All are comparably priced for shuttle
service. Do any of you have a recommendation of which to use?

----------------

As mentioned above, I preferred Grayline / Coach USA

Good luck!

Steve

If I were staying at Excalibur and two people traveling, I would not
take the shuttle at all, as they will charge you $5 each or so, and a
cab ride from the Airport to Excalibur shouldn't cost more than $12.

The Excaliber is real close to the airport and the taxi fare should be less than $10 (as long as the driver doesn't take "the tunnel.") I found the shuttles are a bit of a pain, most cabbies in Vegas are great and worth the few extra bucks.

How about a cab ride for 4 from Mccarron to the Flamingo?
Do you know the approximate cost?

Thanks;

I don't recall there being a difference in fare for 1-5 people. It's
probably about $10-$15, no more. My last cab ride last week from
Wynn to the airport was $13-$14 and it included $1.50 wait time.
Flamingo is much closer than Wynn. With 4 people I would never take
a shuttle from the airport, unless I was staying in Denver.

Probably around $15-20, there are a number of cabs that are SUV's or Mini-Vans that hold 4 people comfortably. Again, unless you're going downtown or the far north strip, make sure the cabbie does not take "the tunnel". It will add $5-10 on a lower strip trip.

Flamingo is Center Strip across from Caesars, and NO you don't need to take
the tunnel.I'm assuming you're taking a Taxi or shuttle to the hotel?Once
there you are with walking distance
of all the Strip hotels although some are longer walks than others.

This is our first time, where is the Flamingo? Upper strip, lower strip, ???
Do we take the tunnel or not? Haven't left the house yet, and I'm already
confused.<G>

Lower strip, right in the middle. If you get a mountain view room you can see the airport. Do not take the tunnel.

Use the web and check out all the sites with recommendations (LVAdvisor, Vegas4visitors, etc) The town can be overwhelming for first timers. There are numerous "free" ways to get around, shuttles between Harrahs, Caesars and Rio: Tram between Excaliber and the Luxor, Mandalay Bay: Mirage and TI, Belligio and Monte Carlo.

Enjoy your trip and sign up for every Slot Cub you can for their future offers.
