vp tourney

well we just got back from our vegas trip. we had a quickie 3 day trip to the Stardust and i was entered into their video poker tournament. it was my first one. i did read the bob dancer article on playing in a tournament and got a few tips.

we played ddb for 15 min sessions with 1250 credits. i didn't have any problem playing my credits off - with usually 1 1/2 to 2 min left on my timer. i had two pretty average rounds of 1050 and 1160. By the last round 3 people had hit royals. i knew that i didn't have a shot at the top without a royal. i did hit aces with kicker in my last round and ended up with a 2890. pretty good. their payouts were 1st - 10,000, 2nd 4,000, 3rd 2,000, 4th 1,000 5 500, 6-10th 300, after that i forget most payouts were $25 and i think that was for 50-150???

i somehow ended up 10th. i was in shock. i figured i was in for $25!!! the top score was 7625 - i think). all in all 5 people had royals. more than i thought would hit. it was fun. i did notice a lot of older people in the tournament and they did play pretty slow. there were scores as low as 300-400 in a round. i may have to play in another one.

other vp stuff - i couldn't win crap. because we had no car this trip we didn't have the luxury of going to a local's casino (except for sam's town). could not win a thing at the stardust - did ok at Westward HO. but for the most part i lost my butt - oh i did hit 4 deuces at the stardust on our last night. i look forward to hitting vegas in october (with a car) and hopefully doing better.

5 royals would be about right. 300 entries x 250 hands x 3 rounds = 225,000
max hands played in the tourney. Subtract 20 pct for slow play and no shows
and you get around 180,000 hands. Most people probably play a little
aggressively for the royal so the RF cycle is probably no more than 35,000
hands if that. You should expect at least 5 royal flushes to be hit in this
tourney.

Congrats on the 10th place finish!
