VP Tournaments

What happens if you hit a royal during a tournament? Does the machine lock up? Or, can you continute playing?

I unfortunately haven't had this happen to me, but when I've been in a tournament and a royal is hit, the participant keeps playing. Hitting one or more royals in a vp tournament does wonders for one's score.

There's no "lock up" -- generally speaking, machines lock up only on wins requiring a hand pay.

So, for example, with the advent of TITO, most $1K hits on $.25 machines no longer invoke a lock up. I remember an incident shortly after Resorts went TITO ... I was playing next to a woman playing $.25 who hit a royal. After the machine counted through the 4000 credit win, she was disappointed when the jackpot light and music failed to initiate.

I explained why not, and the expression on her face was suggestive of someone who had just had a birthday that no one remembered. She asked me to hold her machine and then hit the cash out button ... she was determined that some casino employee was going to acknowledge the win

Since these are tournament machines, not real cash wins, there is no lockup, and you keep playing. (If the tournament is time-sensitive, hit the Deal or Draw button to register the credits quickly, rather than waiting for a roll up.)
