I rarely hear of these in Reno.
I'm bringing it up here 'cuz Tom is preparing to add a new section to the database to
list Tournaments. See parallel thread in vpFree. I can't tell the interest level in that
forum, but, I predict as usual, the info that does come in will be primarily Vegas
casinos.
I have the interest to try one, but there never seems to be one going on at the places I
stay while I am there. Oh sure, I get the mailers from a few places, but I'm NOT the
type to make a special out-of-sequence trip just for three 15-minute sessions where
the odds are heavily against you. (look back in the posts - I even passed up a won
entry at the "big" road-to-a-million slot tourney in Oct)
But, if I can line up my trip sched to a tourney in Reno - hey, they sound like fun.
So I guess I am just soliciting info-sharing from us Reno types for Tom to stuff in the
new database. Heck, if there are that many, maybe we'll get our own page.
I will share info for the one or two VP tourneys per year at Silver & Peppermill when I
get the promo mailers. The problem with the mailers I get is they are a little light with
info INFO on the format nor the game that will be played, so... I'll just have to see the
parameters of info Tom's list ends up having....
Here's off an out-of-date mailer at Peppermill: "Sky's the limit" VP tournament
Sept 26-27, 2004
Prize Pool: 1st:$5000, 2nd:1500, then 1000,750,500,400,350,300,200,100.
11th-50th $50 plus drawing from the rest (51st -thru 150th est.) for $500
Entry fee: $99 (waved for "VIPs")
15 min/1000 creds (whichever come first) sessions X 3.
no "playoffs, top scorer Wins the tournament.
then there's a 1-800-phone number and blah blah blah award ceremony stuff.
nothing about which game is played
Anybody out there enter this one? what game was played? how many players were
entered? any other info?
So lurkers out there, come on out and post about Reno VP Tournaments, eh?
The vpFree thread had a good link in one post to a Dancer column which talked a bit
about his strategy and the format of some of the tourneys he's entered.
Cheers, MARK
