I will play in my first VP tournament next month at MSS. I have some
questions about tournament play that have probably been asked here
before. This time I will pay attention to the replies.
My understanding from talking with an MSS marketing person is that
the tournament rules are:
There are two 20 or 30 minute sessions in which 1500 credits (300
hands) can be played each session. The game is double bonus. There
are up to 150 entries. There is 15k in prize money with first place
receiving 5k (based on 150 entries). The top 40 finishers are in the
money.
Given the short duration of play should I adjust strategy. For
instance, it seems breaking two pair when one of the pair is aces
would be a reasonable play. How about a pair of twos, threes, or
fours, with another low pair. Drop the other pair?
Would you keep a dealt full house or hold the three of a kind to go
for a 4OAK?
Straight flush, flush, and straight strategy seem the same to me. Any
changes you would make with them?
What about royals? Do all 3 card royals become a better play than a
high pair in the short term of tournament play?
Would you play the first session conservatively and use the second to
go for everything?
