Are there any links to discussions on this topic? I'm playing in an
upcoming 9-6 JOB tournament and am wondering whether it's better to
swing for the home run by making long term negative plays like AT or
to simply play 100% correct. I'm leaning towards the latter since the
total number of hands played will be a fraction of a cycle anyway, so
why sacrifice anything? The key I think will be to play very fast and
100% correct. This way if a royal fails to hit for anyone you would at
least be near the top standing in points.

generally, at tournament play, an average return is a loser
thus the winning strategy is to go for bust
in vp this would mean playing for top hands, such as royal

First question: Is there a limit on the number of hands? If the
answer is YES then Iggys' reply is absolutely correct since speed is
no longer an issue. If not, then speed may be EVEN more important
than playing correctly.
Second: How many entrants? If there are lots of entrants and all
hands count towards the final result, then some WILL hit the RF.
Third: Are there qualifying rounds? If not, then any RF will count
toward the final results. If there are qualifying rounds then the RF
is not longer an issue and playing correctly becomes more important.
Especially if the final round is limited to only a few contestants.
