I have mixed feeling about this. If you are asking this, you may not
be quite ready to head out to Vegas and play a lot of VP. You are
best off investing in some good software (Frugal VP or Win Poker)
and/or some good strategy cards. Then practice like crazy until you go.
For the chart you give, Know right now that my answer will be way too
simple...just enough to get an idea.
Next, make sure you have the right strategy for the game you are
playing. Compare the pay teble on the machine with the paytable for
the strategy (and since there is no pay table listed with the strategy
you give, make sure you find it before you start to play).
Assuming you have the right pay table and strategy for the machine you
are playing...For now just ignore the numbers (they indicate what each
hold is worth to you, and help you decide what to hold, but since they
are already sorted for you, you can ignore them).
The first line tells you this is a strategy given that you have not
been dealt any deuces. If you have one or more deuces, you need a
different strategy.
Then look at what you were dealt and find the first line that matches
your hand. If you were dealt a royal, congratulations...hold them all
and hit deal.
If you were dealt 4 royal cards, hold them and hit deal. Note...do
this even if you were dealt 9 10 J Q K of one suit. This means throw
away the 9 and the sure straight flush, because it is below the 4 card
royal entry.
Go on down the list until you find a match. If all else fails, take 5
new cards.
If it is a particular abbreviation that you don't understand (like
STFL or gap, open, inside) these usually related to special cases for
straights.
Remember that this is an overly simplistic answer, and if you play
based on my this chart and my answer, you could wind up losing a whole
lot of money.
Good luck

Hello, I've recently joined this group in hopes of educating myself on
VP. The wife and I are heading to Vegas next month and we are trying to
learn this game. I never much cared for slots, but I am somewhat
interested in VP as I'm not just inserting coins ~ pressing buttons ~
giving my money away.
