VP Software Recommendation

My new computer is arriving next week. It'll be running an i7 processor, 6 gigs ram, a high end video card, and Windows 7.

I currently use WinPoker for my VP software, but don't know if it'll run on my new machine, besides I can't find the disk for it anyway.

Which VP software available would you recommend, since I'll be buying one as soon as my machine arrives?

TIA

Kurt

I am not a computer maven. One question is what version of Windows 7 are you
going to run? If it is Professional or Ultimate you should be able to run
anything that ran on XP through the XP Virtual Machine mode. I am currently
running Frugal Video Poker that way. All the major players are very good
(Video Poker for Winners, Optimum Video Poker, Frugal Video Poker, etc. I
think the first one is the most expensive at $49.95 but also has the most
features.) I have an i7-860 with 8gb ram and a 1gb video ram card. I
upgraded to Windows Professional. So far everything has ran smoothly.
Another question: Does your new PC have a 3.5" disk drive? Most do not.

Thanks for the information. My computer will arrive with Windows 7 Professional. And no, my new computer will not have a disk drive. I meant to say I couldn't find the CD rom of WinPoker, if that's why you were asking. It will have a cd/blueray however.

While I was very happy with WinPoker, it does seem a bit dated compared to the others on the market. If Frugal Video Poker seems to have more features than the others, then I'll give my business to Jean. Thanks again for the info.

Furgal Video Poker is also dated. It was created by Jim Wolf in 2000. It was marketed by Jim Wolf and Jean Scott, as part of a joint business agreement.

Jim Wolf and Jean Scott had a falling out several years ago. However, Jean Scott continues to sell Frugal Video Poker on her website, even though the sofware has not been updated for years. Someone please correct me if this is not true.

You can download a free version of Frugal Video Poker at Jim Wolf's website or buy the new software he has developed.

All very true. That is why I noted that Video Poker for Winners has more
features. I have never seen Optimum Video Poker but anything by Mr. Paymar
is usually very first rate.

I have Wolfs Video Poker and Dancers VPW on my computer. I personally like Wolfs program better. It is more versatile and has a great simulator program.

It also plays faster when your looking for speed. VPW's best asset is playing in the advanced mode.

Furgal Video Poker is also dated. It was created by Jim Wolf in 2000. It was marketed by Jim Wolf and Jean Scott, as part of a joint business agreement.

If you're just a recrational player, all the programs mentioned will probably get you to where you want to go. This is if you are disciplined - and study and practice them.

For the beginner, you probably want Wolf Video Poker Lite (WVPL - $19.99), VPW ($49.99), or Paymar's program ($25?).

If you are at the second level or beyond, you probably want the full featured Wolf Video Poker (WVP) at $39.99 - bar none.

If you want the gimmick games, then I would go with VPW at $49.99, as no one else has license.

FVP is indeed now free. The freeware has a 32 bit installer, whereas the original had a 16 bit. This is why you will not be able to install the original on a 64 bit OS, but you can install the freeware.

The freeware does have a splash screen at the beginning and the end, but it is pretty unobtrusive. Otherwise, it is the same game.

It actually does more than all the mentioned programs but WVP, but the interface is a bit confusing and it is a bit outdated.

All my problems with Jean Scott were years ago. I look back on our relationship fondly and wish her the best (you too, Brad!).

She'll probably be pissed when she learns that FVP is free. However, she'll probably sell a lot of FVP books from it.

Best regards,
Jim Wolf

By signing up for a Gold membership on videopoker.com ($6.95 for one month) you can get a discount code for $20 off of VPW.

It is not native to the Mac, though a lot of people are using it through emulators. Also, from what I hear, most Macs now let you run PC programs.

My only problem with Macs have been with the software protection. It will reset sometimes for some unknown reason. I recommend that you always park your license before updating the Mac OS. However, I will always take care of you if something happens.

Try installing the demo on your Mac. If you can get it running, drop me a note (support@wolfvideopoker.com), and I will take care of your license.

I just tried installing the free version of Frugal VP, and got a message telling me that it was partially installed - the "Uninstall" option had not installed on my computer.

I don't like the fact that I won't be able to uninstall if I want to, so I did a System Resore to get rid of it.

Would've emailed this to you privately, and asked for suggestions for proper installation, but...your website lacks a "Contact Us" link.

Personally I have a problem purchasing anything from a website that seems to want to avoid communication.

My mistake - just noticed the "Software Support" link on the bottom left of the home page.
I'm having a problem with it though - when I click on it, I get an "Internet Explorer Security" window, and I have to install MS Outlook in order to contact you.

Since I've never had a need for the Outlook program, I'm not going to install it.
It would be helpful if somewhere on your site you simply listed your email address for Software Support issues.

Jean will not post anything negative about this situation, even to defend herself. But I feel I should since I know the facts and I think members on this forum should have them so they can decide for themselves whether he deserves respect in this community. Jean is still in shock that such a close friend of many years should betray her trust by stealing thousands of dollars from the business profits, not just from the agreed-upon percentage of the software sales but from the sale of her four books. Jean tried to negotiate a reasonable end of the business relationship, including extra time for debts to be paid. But instead of restitution, her partner embarked on a revenge program, including hijacking the frugalgambler Web site URL which caused a loss of additional thousands of dollars.

Many people would have taken this to court, but that is not the way Jean and Brad choose to live their lives. They are much sadder over the loss of the friendship than the monetary damages.

I just put the email address in there, and your computer does the rest. I believe it has to do with what mail program you have in your registry. To avoid future problems with web sites, you could always just right click the link and choose properties. The email address should be exposed. On some browsers, if you just put the mouse over the link, the address will appear in a dialogue corner of the browser.

Your problem is peculiar, especially with the 32 bit installer. Why don't you send me information on your system, and I will try to create the problem. You can send the info to this forum, but I doubt they want to read about us troubleshooting it.
