VP Poker Tournament

I am planning to attend my first VP tournament at the Venetian in
March. Can anyone tell me what game they use, how it is run (i.e. how
is a winner determined) and does one use a different strategy given
that the tournament is clearly shortterm vs. longterm? As always, the
feedback is appreciated.

The game is a tournament special with a unique paytable that returns
about 290%. I can't say much about optimal strategy, but basic Jacks
or Better with no penalty card considerations is probably a good start.

The tournament structure may vary a bit, but usually they have two
sessions of 20 minutes each with 800 credits (160 hands) to start. You
play till your time is up or you exhaust your starting credit balance.
Highest combined score wins the tournament. They usually put part of
the total prize pool into a ticketless sweepstakes, with number of
entries based on play during the tournament earning period.

If I transcribed it properly here is the pay table:

RF 750/SF 500/4Aces 400/4Faces 300/4OAK 250/FH 100/FL 75/STR 50/Trips
40/2pair 30/JOB 20.

I think the Venetian determines tourney invites and mailers on average
play per day. Does anyone know for sure if participating in a
tournament "trips" a day at Venetian?
