VP points vs. slot points

I'm no mathematician, as it seems many of you are (my degree's in
sociology with a minor in East Asian Studies), so I was wondering why
it seems that so many (if not most) slot clubs require a higher
coin-in per point for VP than for slots. Is it because VP is winnable?

And on a not-so-related topic, why are only VP machines installed as
bar-tops, and not slots?

I haven't noticed that to be the case at the casinos I visit in Tunica.

Perhaps its because the casino would rather have the VP players drinking more heavily than the regular slot players. Put a stone sober slot player next to a drunken slot player, and neither one will play better than the other; the only effect the alcohol might have is regarding knowing when to quit. But put a drunken VP player next to a sober one, and there is a very great likelihood that the drunk will make costly errors to the benefit of the casino. Just a thought.

You're on the right track. Casinos naturally will tend to be more
generous with slot points on a machine that returns ~92% (regular
slots) than they will with a machine that returns ~98% or higher
(VP). To put it another way, casinos really love losers, and they
don't much care for winners, or even break even players - so they
attempt to structure their comp rewards accordingly. For the same
reason, you will sometimes see promotions that say something
like "TRIPLE POINTS ALL DAY MONDAY (excludes video poker)."

And on a not-so-related topic, why are only VP machines installed as

Don't know the answer to this one.

Noot,

Some casinos do pay cashback at a better rate for slots over VP (
Pioneer in Laughlin), some don't.

Some have a different rate for denomination too. Some getting better
going up (MSS and GN in Laughlin), others a declining scale (Aztar's
Ramada Express in Laughlin).

Some limit promos on multi-line VP games to the bottom line, even
though it is the same paytable.

Some think nothing of mixing up the same VP game in different
paytables, even at the same denomination. An example you can
play .25 Sigma Double-Double Jackpot at 8/6/4, 8/6/5 and the
preffered 9/6/5 at GN in Laughlin.

And then there is Harrahs.

I have never seen a stand-alone slot in the bartop, but slots and
keno can be found in bartops with multi-game IGT Game Kings and Bally
Gamemakers (Pioneer).
