I just returned from five days in Las Vegas, playing mostly on the strip.
Most of the VP machines now seem to be multipurpose machines where you
choose the denomination of play, such as 5 cents, 25 cents, a dollar etc.
and then you choose one of many possible games from Jacks or Better through
Deuces Wild and many bonus and double bonus types of games. I found the pay
tables to vary greatly, even within the same casino. I found some 6/5 Jacks
or Better payouts, and after walking away in disgust, I would come upon a
9/5 Jacks or Better game in the same casino, all within these multipurpose
machines. I don't think I came upon any 9/6 Jacks or Better games, but I
found a few 9/5 and settled for them. Overall, I found even 9/5 machines
hard to come by and 6/5 and 7/5 Jacks or Better games seemed to abound. I
got nothing better than one four-of-a-kind hand in my play, so I lost pretty
consistently. The Bellagio VP machines seemed to be uniformly low pay
machines. I think I found 9/5 at Excalibur and Caesar's, but they were few
and far between.
