VP Music

Driven almost insane by the Manilow medleys, gangsta rap and
Vietnamese folk medleys that seem to dominate my local casino's sound
system, I recently started bringing my i-pod to VP sessions.
Yesterday I decided some task-appropriate music might be nice, so I
began assembling a playlist of all the tunes I could find related in
any way to gambling, luck, winning, losing, Vegas, etc.

Here's what I have so far (suggested additons are welcome) ...
Luck Be A Lady - Sinatra
I Feel Lucky - Mary Chapin Carpenter
Busted- Ray Charles
Viva Las Vegas - Elvis
Lucky Man- Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Ooh Las Vegas (ain't no place for a poor boy like me)- EmmyLou Harris
Casino Queen (my Lord you're mean)- Wilco
Vegas Baby - The Weepies (better than the band's name suggests)
Every Time I Roll The Dice - Delbert McClinton
The Gambler- Kenny Rogers
Crapped Out Again - Keb Mo
Waitin' For My Lucky Day - Chris Isaak
You Got Lucky - Tom Petty
Hey Baby Let's Go To Vegas - Faith Hill
I'm A Loser - The Beatles
I Wanna Be Rich - Calloway
Leaving Las Vegas (standin' in the middle of the desert waitin for my
ship to come in) - Sheryl Crow
Ramblin' Gamblin' Man - Bob Seger
Lonesome Loser - Little River Band
Take The Money And Run - Steve Miller Band
Son Of A Rotten Gambler - Anne Murray
Tumblin' Dice - The Stones
When You're Hot - Jerry Reed
Easy Money - Waylon Jennings
Money For Nothing- Dire Straits
Poor Boy Blues - Chet Atkins & Mark Knopfler
I Lost It - Lucinda Williams
Some Guys Have All The Luck - Rod Stewart

Loser - Beck ["Soy un perdidor"]

Dave

"I'm elusive, baby, so why don't you kill me..."

In addition to some of jaywilly240's suggestions, I have
these in my "Vegas" playlist on my iPod.

Las Vegas- Petula Clark
Downtown- Petula Clark
Money Money Money- ABBA
Gambler- Madonna
Best Little Whorehouse in Texas- Dolly Parton
A Little Less Conversation (remix)- Elvis vs. JXL
Playing with the Queen of Hearts- Juice Newton
Let's Live it up- Brian Setzer Orchestra
Big Spender- Shirley Bassey
Viva Las Vegas- ZZ Top (much better than the Elvis version)

And, of course, anything by Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr.,
Frank Sinatra, etc. would be appropriate.
Then, there are songs for specific Las Vegas resorts:
Mandalay- La Flavour (Mandalay Bay)
Walk Like and Egyptian- The Bangles (Luxor)
King Tut- Steve Martin (Luxor)
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo- Gogi Grant (Excalibur)
Kokomo- Beach Boys (Tropicana)
Somewhere Over the Rainbow- Judy Garland (MGM Grand)
New York, New York- Liza Minnelli (New York-New York)
All the Gold in California- Gatlin Brothers Band (Gold Coast)
I Go to Rio- Peter Allen (Rio)
Hooray for Hollywood- Doris Day (Planet Hollywood)
Lady Marmalade- Labelle (Paris)
Pinball Wizard- Elton John (Bally's)
Margaritaville- Jimmy Buffet (Flamingo)
Tubthumping- Chumbawamba (O'Shea's)
I Love this Bar- Toby Keith (Harrah's)
That's Amore- Dean Martin (Venetian)
Yo Ho Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life for Me- Disneyland (Treasure Island)
Viva Las Vegas- ZZ Top (Hard Rock)
Let's Live it up- Brian Setzer Orchestra (Union Plaza)
Tiny Bubbles- Don Ho (California)
Danny Boy- Megan Mullally (Fitzgeralds)
YMCA- Village People (Four Queens)

For a song for Hooters, go to http://www.topfunnysongs.com/
and click on "Boobies Song."

And, finally, there's "I'll be Seeing You" by Liberace (for the
Las Vegas sign....and the long drive home).

Wow, a Weepies (agree about the name) reference, never thought I'd see
this when I joined the VP group. The timing of this is incredible as
I visited Atlantic City last week and heard a song (three times) at
the Showboat that brought me to uncontrollable tears ("Ha, look at
that loser - he lost all his money at the tables" - that's what they
were thinking). I even stopped playing DBP to listen to the song and
only caught the female-sung lyrics: "I don't understand, don't
understand." I may never hear this song again or never know who sang
it, but it made a losing trip most bearable. Sorry for the non-VP
story.

Vegas Baby - The Weepies (better than the band's name suggests)

May I suggest one addition:

"Now you swear and plead and beg us,
that you're not a gambling man;
Then you find yourself in Vegas,
with a handle in your hand;

Know those cards can make you money,
so you hide them when you're able;
In the land of milk and honey,
you must put them on the table yeah..."

Steely Dan

At least get the words right

Now you swear and kick and beg us
that you're not a gamblin' man;
Then you find you're back in Vegas
with a handle in your hand
Your black cards can bring you money
so you hide them when you're able
In the land of milk and honey
you must put them on the table

Hopefully it was obvious that
I couldn't remember the song
title and pulled the lyrics out of
my ... deep but clearly flawed memory

It's a Steely Dan song called "Do It Again." Thanks for reminding me.
And thanks to everyone else for some excellent recommendations.

The timing is a curious thing. This thread began soon after I
downloaded "Turn of a Friendly Card" by Alan Parsons Project to my iPod.

Great song, but more for a blackjack crossroader than a machine player.

Probably "I Don't Understand" performed by Alecia Elliott.

I'm very late getting to this thread and have missed the previous
posts. For reasons too complex to explain here, I've always been
partial to "One Night in Bangkok" from the 70's musical, "Chess." It
actually fits the World Series of Poker better than generic VP, but
FWIW, excerpts from the lyrics follow. If you Google the song title,
you can still find the music video on You Tube.

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster

But the queens we use would not excite you
