Through careful study I have found that VP machines, far from being malevolent, are, in fact, quite helpful. They are just not really good at it.
For example, if you are holding an inside straight A-2-3-5 you are hoping for a 4. The machine, being benevolent, wants to help. But, being a computer it is rather stupid. About 1/3 of the time it will realize that you need a low card but not quite recognizing which one it will deal you a 2, 3, 5 or 6. Sometimes it will guess right and give you the 4. The rest of the time it will not be sure what you need and just give you a card. However, you will notice that when it can't figure out that you need a 4 right away it will be sure to deal you a 4 on the next hand, either the first card dealt or a pair. Like a helpful puppy, it tries hard.
This also applies to pity mode, previously noted on this board. If you are down to a very few credits quite often pity mode kicks in and the machine can deal (or draw to) some winning hands to keep you playing. But pity mode isn't designed to keep you playing to grab more of your money. Oh, no! Pity mode is our helpful friend's way of making up for the fact that he just doesn't know how to give you those quads and royals he so desperately wants to give.
After all, the machine sits around idle most of the day. At electronic speeds this is major boredom. So when you do play the machine wants to extend your play as long as possible to avoid going back to his own (speed of light) thoughts.
You can see many examples of the machine's attempts to overcome its own stupidity. How often do you get Royal scares and psuedo scares. As has been pointed out we all see this happening more than 47 times per royal. The only possible explanation is that the machine is trying to give us a good hand but simply can't figure out how to do that quickly enough to follow through. It is simply too stupid to remember what a Royal is long enough to deliver both of the cards needed. Yes, sometimes it gets it right but it is always trying for you.
Please remember, what appear to be malevolent patterns instead of statistical anomalies are really your favorite machine's attempts to help although the poor dears are just too scatterbrained to do it well. That's why programmers give them pseudo random number generators to help them cope with their inadequacies and preserve their self-esteem. Your VP machine is your friend.
